Eckhard Stromer

Eckhard M. Stromer (born December 24, 1972 in Chicago, Illinois , USA) is an American jazz musician ( drums ) and percussionist .

Life

Stromer received his first drum lessons at the age of 7 and was soon playing in school orchestras and big bands as well as in various brass bands and rock bands. From the age of 15 he took lessons from Reiner Oliva in Göppingen and devoted himself more and more to jazz. As a schoolboy he founded the Lumberjack Big Band Göppingen and directed it from the drum set for the first few years.

From 1992 to 1995 he studied classical orchestral drums (orchestral musician and state-certified music teacher) with Bernd Kremling and jazz drums with Bill Elgart at the Hermann Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg . In 1996 he received his diploma from the University of Music in Würzburg . A subsequent artistic postgraduate course in classical drums with Klaus Treßelt and jazz / pop with Manfred Kniel finally led him to the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart . From 1993 to 1997 Stromer was a member of the State Youth Jazz Orchestra Baden-Württemberg ( headed by Bernd Konrad ), from 1995 to 1997 a member of the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer .

In 1997 he became Principal Drummer / 1. Perc. at the Palladium Theater Stuttgart for Disney's “Beauty and the Beast” and in 1999 at the world premiere of Disney's “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. He received a composition commission from the Baden-Württemberg State Wind Orchestra for percussion ensemble for the World Music Contest 2017 in Kerkrade / NL.

From 2000 he taught as a lecturer for jazz / pop drums at the State University for Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart (HMDK Stuttgart), and since 2011 as a permanent lecturer for jazz / pop drums, ensembles and jazz rhythm.

Eckhard Stromer is also a juror in competitions such as “ Jugend musiziert ” or Jugend jazzt! and gives workshops / master classes etc. a. at the Stuttgart Jazz Workshop, Jazz Workshop Music Academy Kürnbach, Percussion Festival Koszalin / Poland, "Korean National University of Arts Seoul / South Korea" (KNUA), International Jazz Course Burghausen, Student Jazz Festival Baden-Württemberg, " University of Media" Stuttgart , International Music Academy Schloss Kapfenburg, Heidenheimer Jazzworkshop, "Kolberg - World of Percussion Festival", state teacher training of the VdM.

He lives in Stuttgart .

Awards

Stromer received prizes and awards a. a. at " Jugend Jazzt" , the "International Drummers Meeting 1994", the "German Conservatory Competition 1995", the "International European Jazz Competition" of the Leverkusener Jazztage 1997, the Mercedes-Benz Advancement Award for Jazz and Popular Music 1997 as well as with the recording "Caravan" "by Adriana Hölzsky & the Percussion Ensemble Stuttgart an entry on the first quarterly list of the " Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik " 2006 as well as a Grammy nomination in 2001 with Paquito d´Rivera - The Clarinetist Vol.1.
