Nils Gessinger

Nils Gessinger (born March 10, 1964 in Schwäbisch Hall ) is a German soul / jazz pianist , arranger , composer , producer and big band leader from Hamburg .

Live and act

At the age of nine, Gessinger made his first appearance in a duo with a drummer in front of 400 people. He studied piano with Dieter Glawischnig at the Hamburg University of Music and graduated with a diploma.

Even during his studies he performed with his own formations and as a guest musician, arranger, musical director of various show and musical productions such as Cats , The Little Horror Shop , The Lion King , Fosse or Aretha - the Queen of Soul . He played for over ten years as a pianist in the NDR Big Band for studio productions and concerts. In 1992 he worked on the score for Otto - Der Liebesfilm .

In 1995 he released on the US label GRP / Universal Music Group : On his album Ducks'n'cookies worked u. a. Herb Geller and Wolfgang Schlüter with. 1996 followed, also on GRP, his second album Scratch Blue with Robben Ford , Peter Less , Nils Landgren and Wolfgang Haffner . In 1997 he appeared on the ARD with a 60-minute feature in Ohne Filter extra with Robben Ford and Uwe Ochsenknecht as a guest. His third album Jam It Up! he published in 2003 with u. a. Dave Weckl , Peter Less and Roger Cicero , his fourth album Burning (2009) with u. a. Vinnie Colaiuta and trombonist Joe Gallardo . In 2011 the concept album Pass-ion was released with guest musicians such as Will Lee , John Tropea , Rocky Bryant and Peter Less.

Nils Gessinger performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival , the Montreux Jazz Festival and other European, American, African and Asian festivals. He played u. a. with artists such as Charly Antolini , Dee Dee Bridgewater , Gerry Brown , Lutz Büchner , Roger Cicero , Tony Christie , Vinnie Colaiuta , Jane Comerford , Georg Danzer , Georgette Dee , Cornell Dupree , Joe Gallardo , Herb Geller , Rex Geller , Gitte Haenning , Wolfgang Haffner , Peanuts Hucko , Anna Maria Kaufmann , Hildegard Knef , Patti LaBelle , Nils Landgren , Bob Mintzer , Wencke Myhre , Otto Waalkes , Peter Petrel , The Platters , Inga Rumpf , Deborah Sasson , Wolfgang Schlüter, Roman Schwaller , Three Degrees , Colin Towns , Dave Weckl , Peter Less , Gert Westphal , Jiggs Whigham as well as with the NDR Bigband, the NDR Radiophilharmonie and the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln .

From 1988 to 2014 (ten years of which together with Jochen Arp ) Gessinger led the LandesJugendJazzorchester Hamburg Jazzessence under the auspices of the Landesmusikrat Hamburg and produced five CDs with it. Here impacted Bob Mintzer and Herb Geller and Wolfgang Schlüter.

Nils Gessinger said goodbye on February 28, 2014 after a farewell tour with 16 concerts with a farewell concert in the Altona factory with guests such as Peter Less , Bridget Fogle , Madeleine Lang , Nathalie Dorra and Jürgen Neudert .
