Jürgen Neudert

Jürgen Neudert (* 1970 in Erlangen ) is a German jazz musician ( trombone , also arrangement , composition ).

Live and act

Neudert, whose father is a trombonist, made his first experiences on his father's instrument at the age of five. At first he was tutored by his father. As a schoolboy, he was a visiting student at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuremberg at the age of 16 . There he studied classical trombone with Silvan Koopmann from 1988 . In 1990 he moved to the Cologne University of Music and Dance , where he studied jazz trombone with Jiggs Whigham and in workshops with Bob Mintzer , Bart van Lier and Bob Brookmeyer and passed his exam in 1998 with distinction. During his studies he belonged to the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra led by Dusko Goykovich until 1990 and then played in the Bujazzo under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer .

Neudert worked as a soloist and ensemble player in Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass , the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra , the Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion , Peter Herborn's Large Ensemble , the RIAS Big Band and the large formations of Paul Kuhn , Thilo Wolf , Dani Felber and Tom Gäbel . Wil Salden engaged him for seven years as the solo trombonist in his Glenn Miller Orchestra . Since it was founded in 1994, he has been a member of the Nuremberg Sunday Night Orchestra , which he has also directed since 2009.

Neudert also directed his own bands, but also played in the groups of Jasper van't Hof , Gabriel Pérez and Florian Ross . As a studio musician and arranger, he has worked with BAP , Torsten Goods , Bully Herbig , the Heavytones , Albie Donnellys Supercharge , Jennifer Rush , Jerry Bergonzi , Dianne Reeves , Jimmy Smith , Inga Rumpf , Bill Ramsey , Al Jarreau , Romy Camerun , Rue Protzer, among others or Till Brönner .

Neudert worked for many years as a lecturer for jazz trombone at the music academies in Weimar and Dresden. Since 2011 lecturer for jazz trombone and improvisation at the University of Music Würzburg , he has been professor for jazz trombone at the University of Music Nuremberg since 2013.

Prizes and awards

In 1995 Neudert became the first European to win the Frank Rosolino Memorial Award from the International Trombone Association . With a quartet led jointly with Oliver Leicht , he won the Leipzig Jazz Days' Young Talent Award in 1996 . In the same year he received the Nuremberg Scholarship with the Sunday Night Orchestra as part of the Prize of the City of Nuremberg , the Bavarian Art Promotion Prize in 2004 and, most recently, the Wolfram von Eschenbach Prize in 2006 .
