Edgar Peña Parra (born March 6, 1960 in Maracaibo , Venezuela ) is a Curia Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church and a diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Edgar Peña Parra studied philosophy at the University Institute St. Thomas Aquinas in San Cristóbal and theology at the University Institute Santa Rosa in Lima . He received on August 23, 1985, the sacrament of the priesthood at the Basilica of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maracaibo . He then completed a doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Gregorian University and a degree in International Law at the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy . Peña Parra entered the diplomatic service of the Holy See on April 1, 1993 and served in the missions in Kenya , Yugoslavia , at the UN headquarters in Geneva , South Africa , Honduras and Mexico . In addition to Spanish and Italian, he also speaks English , French , Portuguese and Serbo-Croatian .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on January 8, 2011 titular Archbishop pro hac vice of Thelepte and appointed him on February 2, 2011 as the successor of Archbishop Adolfo Tito Ylanna as Apostolic Nuncio in Pakistan . He was ordained bishop on February 5, 2011 in St. Peter's Basilica by Pope Benedict XVI. self; Co-consecrators were Cardinal Dean Angelo Sodano and Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB .

On February 21, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Mozambique and on August 15, 2018 as a substitute for the Vatican State Secretariat . He was introduced to this office on October 15 of the same year.
