Edmund Scholz

Edmund Scholz (born August 10, 1835 in Friedersdorf , Glatz district , province of Silesia , † November 2, 1920 in Grafenort ) was a German theologian , pedagogue and local researcher . Life

Edmund Scholz was the son of a teacher. After graduating from the Royal High School in Glatz , he studied theology at the University of Breslau . On July 2, 1859, he was the Breslauer Prince-Bishop Heinrich Förster for priests ordained. He was then a chaplain in Habelschwerdt . After he had passed the rectorate exam, he was given the management of the Habelschwerdter Prefectural School ( Städtische Höhere Knabenschule ) founded by him in 1865 , at which teaching was carried out according to the grammar school curriculum. At the end of the 1870s, together with the seminar director Franz Volkmer , he pursued the plan to publish their local history writings in their own magazine. This first appeared in 1881 under the title "Quarterly publication on the history and local history of the County of Glatz". For this project, they primarily evaluated the handwritten historical records of the local researcher Joseph Kögler . In addition, in addition to local history, the magazine should also include articles on the Glatzer dialect, customs, weather observations, etc. include. Edmund Scholz was responsible for volumes I to IV. After he became pastor of Grafenort in 1886, Franz Volkmer and the Regens of the Glatzer Konvikt , Wilhelm Hohaus , took over the editing of the following volumes. On the occasion of his 50th jubilee as a priest in 1909, Edmund Scholz was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Breslau .

In 1910 Scholz was appointed grand dean and vicar for the county of Glatz. During his tenure, the Glatzer Vicariate was elevated to an independent General Vicariate . Subsequently, he was appointed on August 2, 1920 by the Prague Archbishop František Kordač as the first vicar general of the County of Glatz. At the same time he was granted the right to wear a pectoral cross, miter and staff . He died three months later. He was buried in the Grafenort parish church.
