Edward Linskens (born November 6, 1968 in Venray ) is a former Dutch football player . He played for PSV Eindhoven for nine years in the Eredivisie , won the European Cup in 1988 and was four times Dutch champion and cup winner. After that he was active for two more years before ending his career.

Career

Linskens began his career in his hometown at SV Venray . At the age of 17 he moved to the youth division of the PSV Eindhoven honorary division . There he made his professional debut on January 16, 1988, when he was substituted on in the league game against FC Twente Enschede in the 15th minute for Adick Koot . As a result, he was used more often by coach Guus Hiddink and was also used in the European Cup . There Hiddink let him play for the first time in the semi-final first leg at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu against Real Madrid . Linskens played from the start and - after the early opening goal from Madrid by Hugo Sánchez - equalized the 1-1 final score in the 19th minute of the game. In the second leg he finally managed to reach the final with PSV with a 0-0 due to the away goal rule after the two legs . Before the final in Stuttgart's Neckarstadion , he was able to get the double with PSV by winning the championship before Ajax Amsterdam and winning the cup final against Roda JC Kerkrade . On May 25, 1988 PSV started with Linskens in the final against Benfica Lisbon and won 6-5 on penalties . This made PSV one of only three triple winners to date .

For the new season he scored his first league goal on the second match day against FC Volendam . At the end of the season there were a total of three and the national double could be defended, although Linskens did not play in the cup final against FC Groningen . In the European Cup he was only used twice and could not prevent the elimination in the quarter-finals against Real Madrid despite his starting eleven in the decisive second leg. The following season was the last under the direction of Guus Hiddink, who, as in previous years, did not let Linskens play more than half of the games. At the end of the season, Eindhoven was runner-up behind Ajax and won the cup by beating Vitesse Arnhem 1-0 . Hiddink went to Fenerbahçe Istanbul and was replaced by Bobby Robson . This used Linskens in only twelve league games in the following two seasons and led PSV to two championship titles. After Robson was replaced by Hans Westerhof in 1992 , Linskens became a regular player for the first time, scored eight goals in 29 league games and decided the top game against rival Ajax with his brace to a 2-1 win. He was also the only one in the PSV squad to play all ten games in the newly formed UEFA Champions League . However, since Eindhoven could neither win a national title nor was successful in the Champions League, Westerhof was dismissed and two turbulent and unsuccessful seasons followed, in which Linskens played less than before. In 1994 Dick Advocaat was hired as the new head coach of PSV and Linsken's time at PSV ended, as he played no role in Advocaat's plans, he sold him to NAC Breda after only ten appearances in the 1995/96 season .

In Breda he only stayed until the end of the season and then moved to Belgium to the first division club Sporting Lokeren . Linskens was able to score one goal for Sporting in the away games against Excelsior Mouscron , Cercle Brugge and KAA Gent and reached twelfth place in the final table with Jan Koller's team . After a year he moved back home to VVV-Venlo . For the then second division side he scored the second most goals after Maurice Graef with seven goals, but was only eleventh in the table at the end of the season. Since his contract in Venlo was not renewed after this season and he could not find a new club, he ended his career at the age of 30.
