See my homeland once more is a German dramatic homeland film that was shot in Austria and Kenya in 1958 under the direction of Otto Meyer . The main roles are occupied by Rudolf Lenz and Anita Gutwell . The premiere of the film took place on November 6, 1958 in the Capitol in Ulm .

action

The young hunter Bertl has difficulties with the new hunter Michael. Since Michael fell in love with Gerda, the daughter of the forester Perner, a dispute broke out between them, and they both became competitors both in their work and in love. Bertl accuses the innocent Michael of a crime, whereupon he is arrested and convicted. During the transport to the prison, however, Michael manages to escape. In Africa he finds shelter with an old war comrade. With him he takes a job as a big game hunter . After a while, Michael becomes so homesick that he decides to return home, even though he is aware that a prison sentence awaits him there.

The real culprit was the poacher Alois, but he was covered by the hunter Bertl because he wanted to get rid of his competitor in this way. When Alois wanted to indulge his passion again on Christmas Eve, he fell off a rock. Plagued by a strong remorse, shortly before his death he confesses to the farmers, who find him, what really happened back then. Bertl is then arrested.

Michael and his friend from Africa mingle with the churchgoers at Christmas. At Christmas mass Gerda looks over to Michael and is happy that she can soon shape a future together with him, whose innocence has now been proven.

criticism

The film advertised itself at the time with the words: “From the silver forest to the savannahs and primeval forests of Africa, this Rudolf Lenz film takes you once more to see home . Seldom beautiful animal shots, dangerous hunting adventures and a dramatic plot full of highlights are the hallmarks of this new Union film. "

The film service's criticism was exhausted in sarcastic comment: “After Der Forster vom Silberwald and Der Poacher vom Silberwald had thoroughly searched the German territory for animal motifs in 1954 and 1957 , the Heimatfilmkitsch in 1958 was warmed up and extended with African motifs. The second hunter of the incapacitated Silver Forest forester has to suffer a lot of hardship because of the beloved forester's daughter. "

Cinema .de stated succinctly: "Flawless kitsch."
