Professional Hockey Writers' Association

The Professional Hockey Writers 'Association (short PHWA ) is a journalists' association , the professional North American journalists working for major newspapers , magazines , websites and TV on Hockey represents report. The headquarters of the PHWA is located in the American West Orange in the State of New Jersey . At the beginning of the 2009/10 season , around 400 journalists were members of the organization. USA Today's Kevin Allen is President of PHWA .

history

The association was founded in 1967. The journalists of the PHWA choose among themselves the winners of most of the trophies, which are given annually by the National Hockey League (since 1983 as part of the NHL Awards ) to the best ice hockey players of the year. In addition, through the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award , which is named after a Canadian sports journalist, they determine those journalists who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
