The Embraer EMB-550 (marketed as Legacy 500 or Praetor 600 ) is a business jet from the Brazilian manufacturer Embraer .
history
The program for this type of aircraft was presented to the public as the MSJ (Mid-Size Jet) together with the smaller Embraer EMB-545 at NBAA -BACE 2007; the start of the program was announced at EBACE 2008. Although the EMB-550 is a new type, the name Legacy ( German heritage ) was taken over from the larger and older EMB-135BJ .
The rollout took place on December 23, 2011 in Sao Paulo. The first flight of the prototype (aircraft registration number: PT-ZEX), which lasted 1:45 hours, took place on November 27, 2012 from the airport in São José dos Campos . The approval by the US American aviation authority FAA and the Brazilian aviation authority ANAC took place in the third quarter of 2014, that by EASA on December 16, 2014. The first delivery took place in October 2014.
The Praetor 600 is a modernized version of the Legacy 500 and was presented in 2018. The name is derived from the Latin praetor , for leader or superior . It was certified by ANAC, EASA and FAA in May 2019 and has been in series production since then. It differs from the legacy version in that it has new winglets , more powerful engines and larger tanks, which increases the maximum range.
construction
The EMB-550 is a conventional low- wing arrangement with engines attached to the fuselage , T- tail unit and retractable nose-wheel landing gear . The structure is made of light metal with the exception of the tail unit and the control surfaces , which are made of composite materials . The aircraft is controlled fully electronically using FADEC and fly-by-wire , while the avionics are equipped by Rockwell Collins . The interior fittings are supplied by the Austrian aircraft component manufacturer FACC . The wings are manufactured in Évora, Portugal, in collaboration with OGMA - Indústria Aeronáutica de Portugal SA , a supplier company owned by EADS and Embraer.
