Emil August Wilhelm Wolpmann (born August 14, 1848 in Lübeck ; † April 3, 1906 there ) was Senator of the Free and Hanseatic City of Lübeck .

Life

As the son of the businessman JA Wolpmann, both he and his brother, Carl Heinrich , attended the Katharineum in Lübeck . As the first-born, he completed his apprenticeship in his father's business, whereas Carl Heinrich opted for a military career. He fulfilled his military duties in the ranks of the Lübeck Citizens Guard .

After the military convention with Prussia was concluded, Wolpmann was assigned to the 2nd Hanseatic Infantry Regiment No. 76 as the first Liibeck reserve officer . When the Franco-Prussian War broke out , he stayed in England , from where he joined his regiment directly. Severely wounded in the Battle of Gravelotte , he returned home decorated with the Iron Cross .

In 1876 Wolpmann took over his father's business and was elected to the citizenry in 1879 . Here he excelled in the committee of the Lübeck-Büchener Railway . Elected to the Senate (1883) he was co-founder and first chairman of the Father City Association . He was a member of the Finance Department , Compass of the Building Deputation . He was a member of the Commission of Commerce and Shipping , Commissioner for Imperial and Foreign Affairs and the newly created canal building authority ( Elbe-Trave Canal ). He was also head of the Holy Spirit Hospital and chairman of the board of directors of the Lübeck hospital (now the Sana Clinic ).

On May 31, 1895, he took part in the celebration of the laying of the foundation stone for the Elbe-Trave Canal in the Hanseatic city. After the beating, the Silver Hammer by Friedrich Eduard Schacht suggested Wolpmann followed by Senator Henry Klug with the words "Now fresh take action early and late." The granite stone .

On April 1, 1897, the Lübeck Military Commission and Senator Dr. Plessing and Wolpmann sent the new infantry regiment No. 162 to Lübeck arriving at the station with a 60-axle special train at about 12 noon for Army March No. 7 (March First Battalion Guard) .

Mayor Heinrich Klug was accompanied by him on November 20, 1899 on his trip to the Germania shipyard in Kiel . There the mayor baptized a cruiser the following day on the day of the imperial mother's birthday with the name Nymph and then telegraphed the emperor who was staying at Windsor Castle in London to the notice. In the exhibition of the cruiser, the painting was later found "View of Lübeck". Elisabeth Reuter , a Lübeck artist, had painted this on behalf of the Lübeck Senate.

Wolpmann was a member of the Lübeck medical column and, since 1899, also the state delegate of the Red Cross Association .

In 1912, like all former Katharineers active in the Franco-Prussian War , a monument was set up by the wine merchant Gerhard von Melle in 1912 through a foundation in the form of a window in the auditorium .
