Carl Heinrich Wolpmann (born January 18, 1851 in Lübeck , † February 29, 1908 in Düsseldorf ) was a Prussian colonel and commander of the Landwehr district of Düsseldorf.

Life

He is the second son of the businessman JA Wolpmann and grew up in Wolpmann's house on Königstrasse in Lübeck. Like his brother Emil , he graduated from the Katharineum . Since his brother was doing his apprenticeship in his father's business, he chose a military career.

On October 1, 1869, Wolpmann joined the 6th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 68 of the Prussian Army in Koblenz as a three-year-old volunteer . There he was appointed Portepeefähnrich on May 10, 1870 and took part in the siege of Metz with the regiment 1870/71 during the war against France . On November 24, 1870, he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and as such Wolpmann was used in the fighting at Berdaucourt les Thennes, Amiens and at the Hallue .

From October 1874 to the end of June 1877 he was sent to the War Academy in Berlin for further training . After that, Wolpmann was adjutant of the district command in Cologne until April 18, 1880, and in the meantime, on April 12, 1879, he became Premier Lieutenant . From May 1, 1884, Wolpmann was commanded to serve with the Great General Staff for one year . With his promotion to captain he became company commander on February 15, 1887 . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was appointed teacher at the Metz War School on September 21, 1889 . Transferred to Infantry Regiment No. 140 on August 12, 1890, leaving this command , Wolpmann finally came to Infantry Regiment No. 99 in Zabern on June 16, 1894 . There he initially acted as a company commander, became a major on January 27, 1895 and was commander of the 1st battalion from May 20, 1896. Under position à la suite of the regiment, Wolpmann was promoted to command of the Kassel War School on September 14, 1900 and promoted to lieutenant colonel on May 18, 1901 . From April 24, 1904 to May 27, 1906, Wolpmann was Colonel in command of the 5th Lorraine Infantry Regiment No. 144 in Mörchingen , later in Metz. He was then put up for disposition and appointed commander of the Landwehr district of Düsseldorf. He died in this position the following year.

He left a widow and four children. The only son decided on a military career and was assigned to the War Academy in Berlin as a lieutenant in the 1st Upper Rhine Infantry Regiment No. 97 .

After a commemoration ceremony attended by all circles, the remains were transferred to Lübeck, according to his wishes. There he was buried in the family crypt in the Burgtorfriedhof .

In 1912, like all former Katharineers active in the Franco-Prussian War, a monument was set up by the wine merchant Gerhard von Melle in 1912 through a foundation in the form of a window in the auditorium .
