Emil von Bornstedt

Emil Heinrich Johann von Bornstedt (born April 22, 1804 in Stendal ; † July 6, 1885 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Emil was a son of the Prussian major Ernst von Bornstedt (1768–1813) and his second wife Annette, born von Düring (1783–1853). His father fell in command of the West Prussian Grenadier Battalion in the battle of Großgörschen .

Military career

Bornstedt visited the military orphanage and the Berlin cadet house . Subsequently, on July 28, 1821, he was transferred to the 26th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a Second Lieutenant . He was promoted to Prime Lieutenant on September 14, 1831 , and in 1836 he was commanded to the Infantry Training Battalion. On December 12, 1839 he was appointed captain and company commander. Promoted to major on November 25, 1848 , he came to Iserlohn as commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 16th Landwehr Regiment . With this he took part in the suppression of the Baden Revolution in 1849 . He fought in the battle near Waghäusel and was wounded in the battle near Durlach . For this he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle IV class with swords on September 20, 1849 and the Commander's Cross II class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion on October 27, 1849 .

On April 12, 1851, he was transferred to the Silberberg Fortress as commandant and placed à la suite of the 26th Infantry Regiment. From there he was transferred to the fortress Pillau on November 1, 1853 , and promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 13, 1854 . He was then transferred to the 14th Infantry Regiment on May 16, 1857, and appointed commander there on October 29, 1857. Promoted to colonel on May 22, 1858, he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on October 3, 1859. Class with swords. He came on June 22, 1861 as a commander in the 21st Infantry Brigade and was assigned à la suite of the 14th Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to major general on October 18, 1861, and on January 18, 1863 he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves and swords on the ring. During the Polish Uprising of 1863 , he and his brigade were stationed on the Polish-Russian border. On April 7, 1864, the brigade was mobilized again and took part in the campaign against Denmark . On August 9, 1864, he received his retirement with the character of lieutenant general and a pension.

He died on July 6, 1885 in Berlin and was buried on July 9, 1885 in the St. Matthäi cemetery .
