Wilhelm Günther Enno von Colomb (born August 31, 1812 in Berlin ; † February 10, 1886 in Kassel ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and military writer .

Life

origin

He was the son of the later Prussian general of the cavalry Peter von Colomb (1775-1854) and his first wife Maria Henriette, née von Stosch (1784-1822). His brother Gebhard (1815-1891) and his half-brother Karl (1831-1911) also became Prussian lieutenants general.

Military career

Colomb attended the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Berlin and the Gymnasium in Neise . On 20 February 1831 he then joined as Ulan into the 1st Guards Uhlans of the Prussian Army in Potsdam one. There Colomb was promoted to secondary lieutenant on December 20, 1831 and completed the General War School from October 1835 to the end of June 1838 . In October 1839 he was promoted to regimental adjutant, on May 11, 1848, was Premier Lieutenant and, as such, on February 13, 1849, Adjutant of the 2nd Guard Cavalry Brigade . There he was promoted to major at the end of March 1858 and on July 8, 1858 he returned to the 1st Guards Uhlan Regiment. At first he was used as a regular staff officer, then from July 25, 1859, Colomb was entrusted with the management of the regiment and on July 24, 1861 he was finally appointed commander.

In the German War of 1866 he commanded his regiment in the Battle of Königgrätz and received the Order of the Crown III for his services . Class with swords. Under position à la suite of his regiment, Colomb was appointed commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade on March 5, 1867, and in this position he was promoted to major general on June 18, 1869 .

During the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France , Colomb was given command of the 3rd Cavalry Brigade on July 18, 1870 , with which he took part in the battles at Beaumont , Sedan , Orléans and Le Mans and the siege of Paris . After the Peace of Frankfurt , Colomb was again commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade. After his promotion to lieutenant general on September 2, 1873, he was transferred to the army officers on November 25, 1873 with his previous salary. On February 10, 1874 he was appointed commandant of Kassel . In this position, Colomb received the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves on January 20, 1878, and on March 1, 1881, on the occasion of his 50th anniversary in service, the Cross and Star of the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern . On July 14, 1885, he was put up for disposal with the statutory pension .

family

Colomb married Klara Luise Georgine Freiin von Binzer (1823-1910) on May 8, 1851 in Linz . She was the eldest daughter of August Daniel and Emilie von Binzer . The following children were born from the marriage:
