Friedrich August Peter Colomb , from Colomb since 1786 , (born June 19, 1775 in Aurich ; † November 12, 1854 in Königsberg ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Life

origin

He was the son of Peter Colomb (1719–1797) and his wife, a born Bacmeister . His father was a Prussian secret finance councilor, war and domain councilor and chamber president von Aurich. For his services he was raised to the hereditary Prussian nobility on October 2, 1786 . His brother Ludwig Christoph von Colomb (1767–1831) was the Prussian President in Breslau ; his sister Amalie (1772-1850) was married from 1795 to the later Prussian Field Marshal Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher .

Military career

Colomb attended high school in his hometown and on April 10, 1792 joined the hussar regiment "von Eben" in Berlin as a junker . With this association he took part in the First Coalition War against revolutionary France until 1794 . He fought near Alsheim , became a cornet on April 16, 1793 and was promoted to second lieutenant in the body hussar regiment "von Rudorff" until February 1797 . Under his brother-in-law Blücher, Colomb took part in the war in Thuringia and the defense of Lübeck in 1806 , and in 1811 became a cavalry master . As such, he carried out brilliant forays in the rear of the French army in the campaigns of 1813 and 1814.

So on May 29, 1813 near Zwickau he took away an entire French artillery park with 82 men, the company of which consisted of six officers, 116 cavalrymen, 80 infantry men and several hundreds of armed baggage soldiers. From 1792 to 1815 he took part in all major battles of the Prussians as well as in over 30 smaller battles.

In 1815 he was the commander of the 8th Hussars , and in that capacity in October 1818 Lieutenant Colonel and on 19 September 1818 Colonel promoted. On October 20, 1823, Colomb was appointed to the 1st Department in the War Ministry . With his promotion to major general on March 30, 1829, he was appointed commander of the 12th Cavalry Brigade in Neisse . On March 30, 1838, Colomb became commander of the 15th Division and 1st in command of Cologne . He was released from this relationship on March 21, 1839 and promoted to lieutenant general a few days later . On December 1, 1841, he gave up the division and became Commander of Berlin and Chief of the Landgendarmerie . For his services he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class in diamonds on April 10, 1842, and the Russian Order of Saint Anne, Class I with diamonds on March 26, 1843 . From September 21, 1843 to June 9, 1848, Colomb was the commanding general of the 5th Army Corps in Poznan . He was then appointed governor of Königsberg .

In the unrest in the province of Poznan in 1846 he took vigorous action. When the revolution broke out in the same province in 1848, he advocated tough action. In contrast, the civil commissioner of the province, General Karl Wilhelm von Willisen , opted for a negotiated solution. On July 7, 1849, he was awarded the character as a cavalry general and was awarded pension for disposition made.

He lived in Königsberg until his death. His grave is in the old garrison cemetery in Berlin-Mitte . His grave was dedicated to the city of Berlin as an honorary grave until 2017 .

family

He married Colomb on August 14, 1808 in Berlin Wilhelmine von Stosch (1784–1822), daughter of the Privy Council and Dr. med. from Stosch. The couple had the following children:

  • Enno (1812–1886), Prussian Lieutenant General ⚭ Klara Luise Georgine von Binzer (* 1823)
  • Gebhard (1815–1891), Prussian lieutenant general
  • Karl Adolf (1817-1825)

After the death of his first wife, he married Marie Henriette von Stosch (1791–1857) in Berlin on June 21, 1824, with whom Colomb had the following children:

  • Karl Wilhelm (1825–1905), Prussian District Judge ⚭ Adelheid von Gustedt (* 1839)
  • Mathilde (1827–1912) ⚭ August 19, 1861 Julius Muhr (1819–1865), painter
  • Karl (1831–1911), Prussian Lieutenant General ⚭ Marie von Hymmen (1838–1918)
