Otto Gebhard von Colomb (born December 12, 1815 in Berlin ; † September 1, 1891 in Heidelberg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Gebhard was a son of the Prussian general of the cavalry Peter von Colomb (1775-1854) and his first wife Wilhelmine, born von Stosch (1784-1822). His brother Enno (1812–1886) and half-brother Karl (1831–1911) also became Prussian lieutenants general.

Military career

Colomb attended high schools in Berlin and Neisse. After graduating, he joined the Guard Rifle Battalion of the Prussian Army as a rifleman on May 19, 1835 and advanced to secondary lieutenant until mid-August 1837 . From February 1839 to the end of August 1840 he was assigned to the 8th Artillery Brigade and from October 1841 to the end of March 1842 to the rifle factory in Potsdam. On October 8, 1846, he was appointed adjutant to the General Command of the V Army Corps . During the suppression of the Polish uprising in the province of Posen , Colomb took part in the battle at Xions in 1848. On July 8, 1848, he was released from his command, took part in the campaign against Denmark and at the end of November 1848 came as Prime Lieutenant in the 5th Jäger Battalion . In the following year, Colomb was involved in the battle at Ladenburg and the siege of Rastatt during the suppression of the Baden Revolution .

On July 13, 1852 he was promoted to captain and was appointed company commander on March 9, 1853 . From June 14th to July 25th, 1859 he worked as a stage commander in Bamberg. On November 13, 1859, he was transferred to the 39th Infantry Regiment . While being promoted to major , Colomb was transferred to the 8th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 57 on July 1, 1860, and to the 2nd West Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 7 on December 16, 1862 as commander of the Fusilier Battalion . This was followed on April 21, 1864 by his appointment as commander of the Magdeburg Jäger Battalion No. 4 .
