Erhan Arslan (born November 13, 1956 in Tekirdağ ) is a former Turkish football goalkeeper and coach.

Player career

society

Arslan started club football in his hometown of Tekirdağ in the youth of Tekirdağspor . In 1973 he was accepted into the professional squad of the then third division team and discovered here for the Turkish national youth teams.

For the season 1976/77 he moved to the first division side Adanaspor . In his first season for Adanaspor he was mostly on the bench and played nine league games. The second season he prevailed against the goalkeeper of the previous season, against Malik Gençalp , and played 24 league games. The league ended in 4th place in the table, repeated the best place in the club's history to date and qualified for the UEFA Cup of the coming season. The new season was mixed for Adanaspor, while Arslan remained the undisputed goalkeeper. In the UEFA Cup, the club was eliminated in the first round against the Hungarian representative Honvéd Budapest and the league ended far behind from the top of the table in 11th place. In the 1979/80 season, Arslan lost his regular place back to Gençalp and only played eight league games.

In the summer of 1980 Arslan left Adanaspor after four years and hired the league competitor and promoted Kocaelispor . At Kocaelispor he stayed for the next five seasons and was a regular goalkeeper during this time.

For the 1985/86 season he moved within the league to the Istanbul club Sarıyer SK . Here he met with İlker Çelik on a strong competitor for the post of goalkeeper and managed to prevail against Çelik for only half of the games. The club ended the season in 4th place in the table and thus achieved the best placement in the club's history. In his second season with Sarıyer, Arslan prevailed against Çelik and completed the most league appearances with 23 league games.

For the 1987/88 season he left Sarıyer and moved within the league to Bursaspor . At this club he immediately established himself as a goalkeeper. The season ended his club in 5th place in the table and thus reached the second-best placement in the club's history. Arslan also played the following two seasons as a goalkeeper and spent the 1990/91 season at the second division side Sakaryaspor . At the end of the season he returned to Bursaspor and was only on the bench for one season. In the Turkish Football Cup of the 1991/92 season they reached the final. In the cup final, which was played back and forth at the time, Bursaspor clearly won their first game in front of their home crowd with 3-0 against Trabzonspor . They lost the second leg with 1: 5 and missed the cup win that was believed to be safe. After missing the cup, they played against Fenerbahçe Istanbul in the Prime Minister's Cup . The game decided Bursaspor 3-1 for themselves and won this cup for the second time after 1971. He then ended his active football career in the summer of 1992.

National team

Arslan played a total of 19 times for the Turkish U-18 national youth team between 1973 and 1975. With the Turkish U-18s, he took part in the 1975 UEFA youth tournament , the forerunner of the U-18 European football championship , and finished fourth in this tournament. This performance achieved the best result of a Turkish national team in a major tournament to date.

Arslan was nominated seven times for the Turkish national team from 1978 to 1985 and had to give preference to the regular goalkeepers Arif Peçenek and Şenol Güneş in six games . His national game debut and at the same time only international game completed Arslan during a qualifying game of the 1986 World Cup against the Northern Irish national team .

Coaching career

Immediately after his football playing career, he began his coaching career. His first job was in the summer of 1992 at his last club, Bursaspor, as assistant coach and assisted his former coach Yılmaz Vural . He followed this trainer to Gaziantepspor after a year and also worked here as an assistant trainer.

In the following years he worked mainly as head coach and mostly looked after clubs in the TFF 1st Lig and TFF 2nd Lig .
