Ernest Maria Müller (born June 30, 1822 in Irritz , Moravia , † September 28, 1888 in Linz ) was the Catholic Bishop of Linz .

Life

The son of an elementary school teacher attended grammar school in Nikolsburg , studied theology in Vienna from 1843 and was ordained a priest on July 19, 1847 . 1853 doctorate he became Dr. theol. and was then professor for moral theology at the University of Vienna . In 1863 he became Regens at the seminary and in 1864 honorary canon in Vienna.

Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria appointed him Bishop of Linz on April 26, 1885. Pope Leo XIII. confirmed him on March 27, 1885. He received the episcopal ordination on April 26, 1885 by Celestine Josef Ganglbauer , the Archbishop of Vienna . Co- consecrators were the bishop of St. Pölten , Matthäus Binder , and the Viennese auxiliary bishop Eduard Angerer . His enthronement in Linz took place on May 3rd, 1885. He campaigned for the construction of the new cathedral and was very fond of church music.

He found his final resting place in the old cathedral in Linz. After the completion of the New Cathedral , his remains (like those of the other Bishops of Linz buried in the Old Cathedral) were moved to the new Cathedral in 1924.
