Ernst Christian von Kospoth (born March 4, 1723 on Groß-Kruckow ; † February 8, 1815 ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 3 and heir to Kospoda .

His parents were the Swedish major Ernst Friedrich von Kospoth and his wife Helene Hedwig, née von Barner from the Ganskow family .

Military career

Kospoth was employed on March 4, 1741 as an Estandartenjunker in the cuirassier regiment "Alt-Waldow" of the Prussian army . During the First Silesian War , the standard in his hand was shot at the battle of Chotusitz . On March 22, 1744, he was promoted to the cornet . During the Second Silesian War Kospoth fought in the battles of Hohenfriedberg (wounded), Thrush , Kesselsdorf and the siege of Prague . Between the wars he became a lieutenant on December 28, 1750.

In the Seven Years' War Kospoth was wounded in the battle of Prague , but then fought again in Kolin , Breslau , Kay (wounded again), Torgau , Hochkirch , Reichenbach and in the battle of Züllichau . During this time he was May 10, 1757 staff assistant master , on March 7, 1758 Rittmeister and company commander and on May 7, 1760 with a patent from May 6, 1760 major. For his behavior at Torgau, the king distinguished him on November 10, 1760 with the order Pour le Mérite .

On September 1, 1781 he was appointed commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Dalwig". On September 21, 1782 he was promoted to major general and appointed chief of the body cuirassier regiment . On May 19, 1789 he was promoted to lieutenant general with a patent from May 26, 1789.

Kospoth celebrated his 50th service anniversary on March 4, 1791. In 1793 he still fought in the First Coalition War and took part in the Battle of Kaiserslautern , where he fell heavily on his horse. Thereupon he was released from further participation in the war in mid-January 1794. At the end of the year, on December 28, 1794, he received his resignation with a pension of 1200 thalers . On May 20, 1801 he was made a knight of the Great Red Eagle Order.

Kospoth married Barbara Sabine von Sydow in 1760 (born April 9, 1743, † August 8, 1814). She was the daughter of Colonel Valentin Detlof von Sydow, commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Dalwig" , who died on August 12, 1759 near Kunersdorf . The marriage resulted in the daughter Beate Wilhelmine Amalie (born January 7, 1777), who on December 20, 1792, married Ernst Friedrich Ludwig Freiherr von Cronberg († October 3, 1811), most recently major in the 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 6 , married.
