Ernst Gottlieb von Börstel (born April 30, 1630 in Lebus ; † April 30, 1687 in Berlin ) was a Kurbrandenburg councilor and chamberlain. He also became major general and commander of an infantry regiment, governor of Magdeburg and governor of Wolmirstedt and Wansleben , knight of the Order of St. John and Commander of Werben, knight of the Order of the Black Eagle and hereditary lord of Hohenfinow and Tornow. He was a member of the Fruitful Society under the name: The Incentive .

His father was Ludwig before Börstel, a Brandenburg councilor and governor of Lebus and Fürstenwalde, his mother was Anna Magdalena von Einsiedel from the House of Saalis and Rochwitz.

Life

His upbringing was initially taken over by his uncle Hans Ernst von Börstel , a councilor to the Prince of Anhalt and captain of Harzgerode . At the age of eight he became a page with Prince Christian von Anhalt-Bernburg . He went on trips with the prince and received military training. He then traveled through Holland and France himself. After his return he became a chamberlain to the Electress Elisabeth Charlotte von Brandenburg (mother of Friedrich Wilhelm I ).

But since he also had military interests, the elector made him captain of the foot guard. With her he fought in the siege of Szczecin, where he was wounded. In 1662 he resigned the office of chamberlain and received the office of thigh on September 20, 1662. A few years later he became Chamberlain and Lieutenant Colonel of the Guard on Foot. He was also accepted into the Order of St. John in 1662 and designated Komtur von Werben and Nemerow . In 1675 he became Commander of Werben, a benefice that he held until his death in 1687.

On February 4, 1675 he was appointed castle captain in Cölln (Berlin), where he was also entrusted with the expansion of the castle. When the elector and his army moved to the Rhine, he was in command of the remaining bodyguards in Berlin; also the residence and fortress Berlin under Prince Johann Georg von Anhalt .

When a separate body regiment was established for the Electress , he was given command there. With the regiment he fought in Pomerania against the Swedes a . a. in the battles of Greifenhagen , Pasewalk , Garz and Stettin . On November 27, 1676 he became a colonel of the body regiment. With this rank he was present at the siege of Szczecin . After the conquest, he was appointed governor of Stettin on November 2, 1678 in Wrangelsburg , for which he had to give up the post of castle captain in Berlin. After the city was returned to the Swedes, he lost the post again. On January 15, 1680, he was sent to Prussia, initially with Lieutenant General von Götzke, as commandant of the troops. But he was soon called back. The elector appointed him a war council and on March 4, 1681, vice governor of Magdeburg. On August 3, 1682 he received the post of governor of the offices of Wolmirstedt and Wansleben. As early as September 14, 1682 he was appointed governor of Magdeburg. On March 6, 1684, he was appointed major general.

In 1685 he received the Ius indigenatus for Poland and Brandenburg for himself and his descendants at the public Reichstag in Warsaw . He died on April 30, 1687 in Berlin and was buried in the church of his Hohenfinow estate.
