career

Youth and the Oberliga Süd until 1962

The son of Ernst Kreuz senior from Sudetenland (World Cup participant for Czechoslovakia 1938) already attracted attention as a C / B youth from Viktoria Aschaffenburg with his excellent ball technique. He ran on April 22, 1956 in Portsmouth in the first international student game in the German selection against England. After impressive appearances in the Hessian association selection in the game year 1958/59, the tall playmaker made his debut in the international match on March 8, 1959 in Coburg against Austria (3-0) in the German national youth soccer team . Together with Peter Kunter , Toni Regh , Hubert Stapelfeldt , Karl-Heinz Bente , Gustav Flachenecker , Werner Ipta , Alfred Heiß and Udo Nix , he took part in the UEFA youth tournament in Bulgaria with the DFB selection at the end of the month . He completed the group matches against Yugoslavia (1-0) and the eventual tournament winner Bulgaria (0-2).

Under coach Ernst Lehner , the talented half-striker made his debut with the team from the Stadion am Schönbusch on the first match day of the 1959/60 season in the football Oberliga Süd . Viktoria reached a 1-1 draw in the home game against TSV 1860 Munich. Overall, he came to the side of the teammates Otmar Groh , Egon Horst and Heinrich Dittel in his first senior round in the league on 17 missions and scored six goals. On the final day of the round, April 30, 1960, TSG Ulm 1846 saw the decisive game for the second relegated from the southern league when the "Spatzen" tied for points. In front of 20,000 spectators, the opponents in the Donaustadion parted with a 1-1 draw, which meant that Ulm was not relegated thanks to the better goal difference. The young cross had hoped to stay in the league on the half left until the 60th minute, then Manfred Ruoff managed to equalize 1-1 for Ulm. The German champions of the year 1959, Eintracht Frankfurt , noticed the young Viktoria’s footballing skills and after switching to Eintracht for the 1960/61 round, Kreuz continued to play in the southern football league.

In the team of coach Paul Oßwald , the career of long-time Eintracht playmaker Alfred Pfaff came to an end due to age, the World Cup participant in 1954 only played four league games in 1960/61 and then ended his career. For the 20-year-old from Aschaffenburg, the successor to the playmaker position in Riederwald was a difficult task. In the southern league he only made 14 appearances and scored two goals. The Eintracht moved through the runner-up in the finals for the German championship. On May 6, 1961, the "Tall One" brought Eintracht in the qualifying game for the finals in Ludwigshafen with two goals against the southwest runner-up Borussia Neunkirchen with 2-0 goals. Frankfurt prevailed with a 5-0 win - the attack ran in the line-up with Richard Kreß , Kreuz, Erwin Stein , Dieter Lindner and Wolfgang Solz - and from May 20 it had the group opponents Borussia Dortmund, Hamburger SV and to do with 1. FC Saarbrücken. In the end, the tied Dortmund moved into the final on June 24, 1961 in Hanover against 1. FC Nürnberg thanks to the better goal difference with Frankfurt. Kreuz had scored three goals in five finals.

In their second year at Eintracht, 1961/62, the Adlerträger went unbeaten with 26: 4 points as autumn champions in the second half of the season after their 3-0 away win on November 26, 1961 against 1. FC Nürnberg. Richard Kreß, Dieter Lindner, Erwin Stein, Kreuz and Lothar Schämer formed the attack against the success in the Noris . Cross contributed to the renewed runner-up in 22 appearances with eight goals. In the final round in 1962 he was no longer used, cross moved to the north for the 1962/63 round to Hamburger SV.

Oberliga Nord and Bundesliga, 1962 to 1965

Before the last league year, Hans-Georg Dulz and Rolf Fritzsche, two other offensive players , came to the series champions of the northern league, where the loss of Klaus Stürmer to FC Zurich had to be coped with. The son of the long-time tenant of the HSV restaurant "Lindenhof" in Ochsenzoll and administrator of the HSV performance center, Ernst Kreuz senior, did not get along in the Uwe Seeler -Elf, he was only able to demonstrate his skills in five missions with one goal. Dulz, who came from Reutlingen and was not used in the points round at HSV, fared even worse. Only Fritzsche made it a regular player. The HSV was nevertheless again champions in the north and in the final round cross was used in the games against Borussia Dortmund, 1860 Munich and Borussia Neunkirchen. In the 1963 DFB Cup, however, he was a member of the group of players who, after successes against Bayern Hof, 1.FC Saarbrücken, in the semifinals against Wuppertaler SV and on August 14, 1963 in Hanover in the final against Borussia Dortmund with a 3: 0 success brought the trophy to the Alster. The attack of the cup winner was occupied by Wilhelm Friedrich Boyens , Peter Wulf , Uwe Seeler, Kreuz and Gert Dörfel .

In the first Bundesliga year, 1963/64 , the ex-Aschaffenburger belonged to the HSV regular line-up, which took sixth place, with 25 league games and five goals. He also showed his above-average technique in all seven European Cup games in the cup winners' competition against Union Sportive Luxembourg, FC Barcelona (three games) and in the quarter-finals against Olympique Lyon. On good days he was a "gifted playmaker". Surprisingly, he dissolved his contract in October 1964 and moved back to southern Germany. He joined the 1965/66 round of SSV Reutlingen in the South Regional Football League .

Regional league football, 1965 to 1974

In two rounds, the technician with playmaker qualities completed 42 league games and scored twelve goals in the stadium at the Kreuzeiche in Reutlingen under the coaches Georg Wurzer and Richard Schneider . More like an eighth or sixth place came with the players Theo Diegelmann , Manfred Kammal, Günther Kasperski, Heinz Kostorz, Rolf Schafstall , Herbert Ammer, Rudolf Schießl and Rolf Thommes but in the rounds 1965/66 and 1966/67.

What followed was an unfortunate year in 1967/68 at SV Röchling Völklingen in the Südwest regional football league , where he scored four goals in just 13 league games for coach Horst Eckel's team.

After that his way led him back to Northern Germany. With the "Elsters" from ASV Bergedorf 85 , Kreuz spent the next two years in the North Regional Football League . With the “Sander Tannen” team he was not at the top of the table, but showed so much skill in his 53 league games with 14 goals that the blue-yellows from HSV Barmbek-Uhlenhorst showed interest and crossed there from the season found a new field of activity.

With BU, the veteran reached fifth place twice in three laps and fourth place in 1972. The start into his first year 1970/71 succeeded with 12: 2 points together with the players Erhard Schwerin , Willi Giesemann and Klaus Fock . When FC St. Pauli was defeated 2-1 goals on the last day of the round in front of 12,000 spectators on May 16, 1971, Kreuz stood out as a two-time goalscorer in the team of coach Edgar "Edu" Preuss. Three points behind champion VfL Osnabrück and two points behind vice St. Pauli, the Uhlenhorster finished the round in 5th place. In the second round, 1971/72, it was enough with coach Reinhold Ertel after 24:10 points in the preliminary round to fourth place. With coach Ertel, Kreuz also went into the 1973/74 round and made two appearances for BU on the first and third (August 19, 1973) matchdays before joining the club of his old BU trainer "Edu" Preuß, Holstein Kiel , connected. For Barmbek-Uhlenhorst, Kreuz played a total of 91 games in which he scored nine goals.

He made his debut with the "Storks" on October 13, 1973 in the 1: 3 home defeat against VfL Osnabrück and played for Kiel again 17 regional league games where he scored one goal. A total of 215 games with 50 goals were registered for Ernst Kreuz from 1965 to 1974 in the regional leagues South, Southwest and North.

He then ended his long playing career in the amateur camp at Germania Schnelsen . As a coach, he later looked after numerous lower-class clubs in the Hamburg area. Including SV Henstedt-Rhen , TuS Neu-Steilshoop, SV Lurup , Elmshorner MTV.
