Erol Boralı (born January 1, 1943 in Çanakkale ) is a former Turkish football player . Through his work for Galatasaray Istanbul and Ankara Şekerspor he is associated with these clubs. He was active in the Galatasaray team that had a strong influence on Turkish football in the 1960s as a supplementary player with players like Metin Oktay , Kadri Aytaç , Suat Mamat , Uğur Köken and Turgay Şeren . Since when he moved to Galatasaray in the summer of 1961, Erol Kaynak was another Erol in the team squad and he was older, Boralı was referred to as Küçük Erol (German: Little Erol) and Kaynak as Büyük Erol ( dt .: The great Erol). With 100 first division appearances for Şekerspor, he is the third most popular Süper Lig appearances in the club's history after Güngör Sürel (103 appearances) and Cahit Dikici (101 appearances) .

Player career

Galatasaray Istanbul

The beginnings of Boralı's football career have not been further documented. He moved to Galatasaray Istanbul in the summer of 1961 . Due to the high number of attacking midfielders such as Suat Mamat , Bahri Altıntabak and Ayhan Elmastaşoğlu , the then 18-year-old Boralı was almost exclusively on the bench in his first season for the Red-Yellows. Only in the league match on September 10, 1961 against Ankara Demirspor , he played over the full length of the game and thus made his professional debut. The Milli-Lig season 1961/62 ended his team by winning the first Turkish championship in the club's history, which also brought Boralı his first title at club level.

After this successful season for the club, the head coach Gündüz Kılıç , who had already celebrated great success as a coach with Galatasaray in the mid-1950s, tried to commit the most important players from his first coaching period at Galatasaray again. At the end of the past season, a return campaign was already underway for star striker Metin Oktay , who had switched to US Palermo . After months of negotiations, Oktay's transfer was completed in late July 1962. In addition, the offensive all-rounder Kadri Aytaç was brought back from arch-rival Fenerbahçe . In addition to these two former players, the right- winger Tarık Kutver was also committed. By buying these offensive players, Boralı sang the likelihood of gaining a regular place. Nevertheless, he was next to the players Metin Oktay, Kadri Aytaç, Uğur Köken , Suat Mamat , Tarık Kutver and Ayhan Elmastaşoğlu , who formed a very successful offensive team in the 1962/63 season and scored a large part of the 105 league goals, four times in the League and once in the cup. In the 1962/63 season his team succeeded in the Turkish championship and thus the title defense. Boralı's team also won the newly introduced Turkish Football Cup this season , becoming both the first Turkish cup winner and the first Turkish double winner. In addition, in the 1962/63 European Cup, the quarter-finals and thus the best placement of a Turkish team to date in this competition in particular and in all European club competitions in general was achieved. In the quarterfinals, the team failed to AC Milan .

Benefiting from the departure of Suat Mamats and the failure of other players, Boralı played in phases in the seasons 1963/64 and 1964/65 as a regular player and completed 16 and 14 league games. In the 1963/64 season, the team started by winning the pre-season cup competition of the TSYD Istanbul Cup . However, the team missed the connection to the top of the table this season and finished the league in 3rd place in the table. Also in the season 1964/65 Boralıs team gambled away the championship. In both seasons 1963/64 and 1964/65, the team won the Turkish Football Cup for the second and third time. As a result, Boralı also became part of the team that was able to win the Turkish Football Cup three times in a row for the first time.

Ankara Şekerspor

After Galatasaray had remained without a championship title for the last two seasons, some players were sorted out for sale in the summer of 1965. Boralı was among the eliminated players. This moved in July 1965 within the league to the capital city representative Ankara Şekerspor . At his new club, he immediately established himself as a top performer and regular player. But after his club had missed relegation at the end of the season, he rose with his club in the 2nd Futbol Ligi . Although the team did not reach the direct resurgence on their own, Şekerspor was accepted back into the first division after months of court hearings by court order. In the relegation season an interruption of the game to the disadvantage of Şekerspors had been decided, which led to relegation. Şekerspor sued this decision and was finally ruled by the sports court. Boralı played with his team again in the first division from the summer. After his team was able to hold a season in the league, the league was again missed in the following season. So Boralı rose again with his team in the 2nd division. In the third second division season, the 1971/72 season , Boralıs team reached the second division championship and thus promotion to the first league. In this league, relegation was again not made, so the club had to relegate to the second division again after a year . Boralı played another season for Şekerspor after this relegation.

National team

Boralı began his career with the Turkish national teams in 1962 during his time at Galatasaray with a use for the Turkish U-18 national team. He then completed eight more missions for the U-18 selection. At all encounters he was over 18 years old.

In 1965 he made his debut for the Turkish U-21 national team . With this he took part in the Balkan Cup in the summer of 1969 and played four games here.
