Erwin Gehrts (born April 18, 1890 in Hamburg , † February 10, 1943 in Berlin-Plötzensee ) was a German resistance fighter , journalist and colonel in the Air Force .

Life

In the First World War Gehrts achieved the rank of lieutenant . Gehrts was editor-in-chief of the Oberhausener Generalanzeiger until 1932 and then worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper in Berlin.

In 1928 he met Harro Schulze-Boysen , who came from Duisburg , and came into contact with his resistance group Rote Kapelle in 1935. From 1934 Gehrts lived in Berlin-Lichtenrade . According to the indictment of the Reich Court Martial, he is said to have passed on military information. Erwin Gehrts was arrested on October 9, 1942, and his trial took place on January 10, 1943. He was executed in Plötzensee on February 10, 1943 .

A stumbling block was laid in 2007 in front of his last place of residence at Uhlandstrasse 41a .
