The Espolde is a 16.1 km long, northwest or left tributary of the Leine in the southern Lower Saxony district of Northeim .
course
The Espolde rises in the eastern foothills of the Solling low mountain range . Its source is a little north of the village of Espol at about 311 m above sea level. NN .
Initially, immediately after leaving the Solling, the Espolde runs in a south-southeastern direction between the Solling in the west and the Weper ridge in the east through Üssinghausen and Trögen (both to Hardegsen), where it flows along the south-east edge of the Solling-Vogler Nature Park . In doing so, it strives towards the core town of Hardegsen , which it reaches after crossing under the Solling Railway , where it changes its direction of flow to the east-southeast. From now on, the flowing water initially runs parallel to federal highway 241 , which it passes under, and then to federal highway 446 . It passes Hevensen (to Hardegsen) and Wolbrechtshausen (to Nörten-Hardenberg ) and passes under Lütgenrode (to Nörten-Hardenberg) under the federal motorway 7 .
The Espolde enters the Leinegraben to reach this lowland at about 126 m above sea level. NN flow into the line ; Opposite its mouth is - across the Leine and Bundesstraße 3 - Marienstein (to Nörten-Hardenberg).
history
In the past, the water power of the Espolde was used to drive water mills . In the localities of Hevensen and Wolbrechtshausen , two mill ditches and the associated weir systems are still evidence of this today . There is also a mill ditch in the city of Hardegsen, which runs right through the city and passes an old mill house near Hardeg Castle .
