description

Appearance and leaves

The Euchresta species are shrubs .

The alternately arranged, stalked leaves are pinnate unpaired, with three to seven leaflets . The petiole has a pad. The pinnate leaves are arranged opposite to each other on the rhachis leaf. The stipules are small and fall off early, there are no stipules of the pinnate leaves.

Inflorescences and flowers

In traubigen total inflorescences the flowers and small, durable stand bracts together. Cover sheets are missing.

The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are bell-shaped to tubular fused with five calyx teeth. The corolla, which towers above the calyx, has the typical structure of a butterfly flower. The nailed, almost upright, narrow flag is a little longer than the wing and shuttle. The free, very long nailed wings are elongated, blunt or slightly sickle-shaped. The shuttle is very similar to the wings. The filaments of nine of the ten stamens are somewhat fused together and the small anthers are all the same. The single carpel contains only one or mostly two ovules . The thin, curved stylus ends in a small, head-shaped scar.

Fruits and seeds

The stone fruit-like, egg-shaped or ellipsoidal, bluish-purple colored legumes do not open when ripe and contain only one seed. The seeds have a membranous, white seed coat (testa).

Sets of chromosomes

The basic chromosome number is x = 9.
