The EuRegio Salzburg - Berchtesgadener Land - Traunstein is an EuRegio association founded in 1995 whose core areas are the Austrian state of Salzburg and the two Bavarian districts of Berchtesgadener Land and Traunstein . The association's seat at the municipal level is Freilassing . In addition to cultural and economic cooperation, the aim is also to promote tourism, education, youth and sport.

The area of ​​today's EuRegio looks back on a long, often common, history. There are many cultural similarities on this side and on the other side of the national borders. The first considerations for founding a Euregio organization began in 1993. In May 1995, the EuRegio contract was signed between the two sponsoring associations, Regio Salzburg and Regio Berchtesgadener Land - Traunstein.

In autumn 1993 there were first considerations to establish a EuRegio in the Bavarian-Salzburg border area. A delegation from the Salzburg provincial government headed by former governor Hans Katschthaler visited the EUREGIO (Gronau) in June 1994. A proponent committee from Bavaria and Salzburg coordinated working discussions in July and August 1994 to establish the EuRegio. The first joint mayors' conference followed on September 14, 1994 with a speech by Katschthaler. At the end of 1994 and beginning of 1995 the Salzburg (September 30, 1994) or Bavarian (REGIO Berchtesgadener Land - Traunstein) REGIO association was founded. On May 22, 1995, the EuRegio Salzburg - Berchtesgadener Land - Traunstein was finally founded with the district administrator of the Berchtesgadener Land district, Martin Seidl, as the founding president. In April / May 1996 nine specialist working groups were founded and filled, three more in July 1997. On July 1, 1996, the position of managing director was filled with Steffen Rubach. In 2001 a regional manager was added. At the beginning of 2002, the Saalach bridge between Ainring (Bavaria) and Wals-Siezenheim (Salzburg) across the Saalach was opened to traffic as an EuRegio project . The Mozart Cycle Path was opened in the summer of 2003 . A EuRegio history book was published in 2004. In May 2006 the first EuRegio summit took place. The Europasteg between Laufen (Bavaria) and Oberndorf (Salzburg) across the Salzach was opened in December . The first AEBR forum on rural development and border regions took place in Kloster Seeon . In summer 2007 the EuRegio dialect book drent and herent was published. The second EuRegio summit took place in Bad Reichenhall in February 2008, the third in March 2010 in Salzburg .

The highest body of the EuRegio is the EuRegio Council. The President is responsible for representing the EuRegio externally. The office of president alternates every 4 years between the Salzburg and Bavarian sides.
