The Expressway 253 is a freeway in South Korea . The highway is an east-west route through the south-west of the country, in the Gwangju area . The highway is 42 kilometers long.
Street description
South of the city of Gochang , Expressway 253 begins on Expressway 15 , the coastal highway from Seoul to Mokpo along the west coast of South Korea. The motorway runs through wooded mountains and through some tunnels . North of Gwangju you cross the Expressway 25 , which comes from Jeonju and runs to Gwangju . The Expressway 253 runs north from Gwangju along and crosses the northeast of the city of Daegu to Expressway 12 . Not much further, Expressway 253 ends on Expressway 25.
history
The highway was built in two phases and the first section opened on December 7, 2006 between Expressway 25 and north of Gwangju. The second part was opened on December 13, 2007, almost exactly one year later, between Expressway 25 and Expressway 15 near Gochang.
On January 3, 2008, the numbering was changed from Expressway 14 to Expressway 253. However, the motorway is still signposted as Expressway 14 and can be found as such on maps.

Traffic volume
The highway runs through a rural part of South Korea and not directly past large cities, the highway serves as an interchange between several highways in the Gwangju region. In 2008 the intensity was between 10,000 and 16,000 vehicles per day.
