The FA Women's Super League 2018/19 was the ninth edition of the highest English women's football league FA WSL . Since the "Spring Series" called FA Women's Super League 2017 is not counted, it is considered the eighth season. It is the first event after the reorganization of the top four English leagues in women's football . The previous FA WSL2 is now called the “FA Women's Championship”. Both continue to be organized under the umbrella of the Football Association . The season ran from September 2018 to May 2019.
Compared to the 2017/18 season , the league has now been increased by one to eleven teams. In addition, there was the runner-up in WSL2 of the previous season, as the champion waived his license and now plays in the northern season of the FA Women's National League, the third highest division in English women's football. In addition, the West Ham United team, which previously played in the Women's Premier League, received the license for the WSL.
The champions and runners-up qualified for the 2019/20 UEFA Women's Champions League . The champions were Arsenal WFC , which last won the English championship as Arsenal Ladies FC in 2012 , ahead of Manchester City Women . The record goalscorer of the Netherlands Vivianne Miedema , who set a new goal record with 22 goals, played a major role in this . In the Champions League, the Citizens were eliminated against Atlético Madrid as in the previous year , but this time only in the round of 16. For the bottom of the table of the preseason Yeovil Town, the last place this season meant relegation.
