Falkenhain is a district of the municipality of Müglitztal in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains , Saxony .

geography

Falkenhain is located in the north of the municipality of Müglitztal. It is located on a plateau on the orographic left and 40 to 70 meters above the valley of the Müglitz, southeast of Dresden . Falkenhain is located in a side valley of the Müglitz, which is still relatively flat in the locality and digs deep into the terrain immediately east of Falkenhain under the name "Hentzes Grund". The steep slopes there are wooded. Falkenhain is a forest hoof village ; the actual location is at 220 to 255  m above sea level. NN . The Waldhufenflur around the place had an area of ​​about 199 hectares in 1842. In the east it extends to the Müglitz and in the northwest to the Spargrundbach. There, Falkenhain has a share in the nature reserve "Spargrund bei Dohna".

Neighboring Müglitztal districts are Ploschwitz in the north, Weesenstein in the southeast, Burkhardswalde on the other side of the Müglitztal in the south and Crotta in the southwest. In the east, along the Müglitz, is the Dohna district of Köttewitz . The closest places to the west or north-west are the Dohna districts of Tronitz and Sürßen .

The road from Weesenstein via Schmorsdorf to Maxen runs through Falkenhain . Because of the small size of the place, the address of all houses is simply Falkenhain, supplemented by the respective house number. The Dreßler travel service provides a public transport connection from Falkenhain to Heidenau , Dohna, Mühlbach and Maxen with its 202 bus . The place name is of German origin and is made up of the words Hain and "Falke". The latter either means the bird of the same name or goes back to Falk or Falko , the first name of a locator . The place name means "clearing settlement of a Falko" or "clearing settlement in a place where there are falcons". The place was first mentioned in documents in 1406. Thereafter, several different spellings were in use, including "Valkenhayn" and "Falckenhayn". To distinguish between four places of the same name in Saxony alone, the place was called in 1791 “Falckenhayn, b. Weesenstein ”and 1875“ Falkenhain b. Pirna ”.

A Vorwerk in Falkenhain was mentioned as early as 1455 . The owners of the manor Weesenstein exercised the manorial rule in the place from the 16th century . The administration of Falkenhain was initially the responsibility of the Pirna Office and then in 1856 the Pirna Court Office. On the basis of the rural community order of 1838 , Falkenhain gained independence as a rural community , which also included the neighboring Ploschwitz as a district. Falkenhain belonged to the Pirna Authority in 1875 , and then to the Pirna District during the GDR . In 1974 it was incorporated into Maxen, which in 1994 merged with other municipalities to form Müglitztal. The place has been parish for centuries after Dohna in the Marienkirche .
