The Farchtensee is a lake in the Gailtal Alps, near the Weißensee . The lake is largely undeveloped in a nature reserve with an area of 190 ha (LGBl. No. 85/1970). Its catchment area is approximately 8.64 km².
The following have been proven in fish species:
- Pike ( Esox lucius ),
- Aitel ( Leuciscus cephalus ),
- Carp ( Cyprinus carpio ),
- Roach ( Rutilus rutilus ),
- Rudd ( Scardinius erythrophthalmus ),
- Tench ( Tinca tinca ) and
- Perch ( Perca fluviatilis ).
The lake is home to Carinthia's highest occurrence of noble crayfish ( Astacus astacus ).
