Connected to the Wörthersee via a pipeline |
The Forstsee ( Slovenian Boršt ) is located in the Techelsberg municipality on the Wörther See between Pörtschach and Velden .
description
The lake is located on a ridge about 1 km north of the Wörthersee at 601 m. With an area of 29 hectares, it is a small lake. Its maximum depth is 35 m, the average depth 22 m. The lake contains 6.5 million cubic meters of water.
A stream that used to drive mills, but now only carries residual water, sometimes flows steeply from the eastern end of the forest lake down to the Wörthersee.
The pressure pipeline from the outlet structure in the Forstsee near its west bank down to the Forstsee power station on the north bank of the Wörtherseen has been connecting these two lakes hydraulically since 1925. Until 1983 (in summer) water from the Wörthersee was also pumped up - for the operation of the storage power plant .
Otherwise the lake is completely natural. The lake is often of naturist used connoisseurs worldwide. There are no facilities - apart from two toilet buildings - and the lake can be freely used by anyone for swimming. A hiking trail leads around the lake, on the west bank there is a listed piece of an ancient road.
Wörthersee circular hiking trail
The circular hiking trail runs along its north bank, which leads from Göriach in the municipality of Velden am Wörther See over the Römerschlucht gorge and has stamp station # 7 as well as two display boards on the topics of "fishing" and "visible traces through ice age glaciers". The path leaves the eastern end of the lake via the dam and leads down to the Meterbach, where another information board describes the earlier use of water power. Via Tibitsch the path leads up to Sekull, both districts of Techelsberg am Wörther See , where the Pörtschach marble is described on another display board .
Fishing
In the middle of the 19th century, the places around the Wörthersee were small, unknown fishing villages. The fishery used to be very productive, now the lake has become poorer, but all fish species have survived. Both lakes are still very popular with fishermen today.
In the middle of the north bank is the club hut of the Forstsee fishing community. In terms of its water quality and plankton , the Forstsee does not differ significantly from the Wörthersee. The official investigation in 2008 also showed "very good hygiene" and oligotrophy .
Well-known fish species in the forest lake are pike , catfish , carp and pikeperch . The lakes are also home to bream , arbor , rudd , roach , tench , perch and crayfish .
Numerous activities such as fishing competitions for children and adults take place at the Forstsee.
Incident 2019
In July 2019, 15 trees of various species, including oak, birch and black alder, were sawed down with a hacksaw on the banks of strangers. The trees are left there.
Renovation of the power plant in 2020/2021
To assess the underwater facilities of the power plant, it was planned to lower the forest lake by 15–20 m from October 2019 and until late autumn / winter 2019 and again during construction from October and until around May 2021.
