Alfred Wilhelm Ferdinand von Kaphengst (born October 18, 1795 in Berlin , † July 3, 1854 in Cologne ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Ferdinand was the son of the Prussian major Christian Ludwig von Kaphengst (1740–1800) and his wife Therese, née Toussaint (1760–1822). His father was a favorite of Prince Heinrich of Prussia , Lord of Meseberg , Baumgarten, Rauschendorf and Schönermark as well as a knight of the Order of St. John .

Military career

Kaphengst visited the cadet house in Berlin and was employed in mid-May 1812 as a second lieutenant in the light guard cavalry regiment of the Prussian army . During the Wars of Liberation he was commanded on May 2, 1813 as an orderly officer to the Russian General Miloradowitsch . In this position, Kaphengst took part in the Battle of Bautzen and received the Iron Cross II class and the Order of St. Vladimir IV class. He fought near Dresden , was awarded the Golden Saber for bravery for Leipzig and took part in the battles at Brienne and Arcis-sur-Aube . His behavior in the Battle of Paris was honored by the award of the Order of St. Anne II. Class.

On February 21, 1815, Kaphengst joined the newly formed Guard Hussar Regiment , which was formed from parts of his old regiment. He rose to the rank of captain and squadron chief by the end of March 1821 . In mid-October 1833, Kaphengst was promoted to major and regular staff officer . In 1835 he took part in the Kalisch revue . In November 1838 he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the House Order by the White Falcon . While being promoted to lieutenant colonel , Kaphengst was commissioned on April 7, 1842 with the command of the 2nd Hussar Regiment (known as the 2nd Leib Hussar Regiment) in Herrnstadt, and on January 10, 1843 he was appointed regiment commander. In the same capacity, Kaphengst was transferred to the Guard Hussar Regiment in Potsdam on March 30, 1844 and promoted to colonel on March 22, 1845 . With the transfer to Cologne on April 27, 1848 he was appointed commander of the 15th Cavalry Brigade . A few days later, Kaphengst was given permission to wear the uniform of the Guard Hussar Regiment and rose to major general by April 19, 1851. He died of an abdominal disease on July 3, 1854 while exercising his service.

family

Kaphengst married on September 29, 1823 in Berlin with Isabella Schickler (1805–1837), daughter of the banker David Schickler . After her untimely death he married Julie Henneberg (1807-1853) on December 28, 1839 in Potsdam. The following children emerged from the marriages:
