Fernando Natalio Chomalí Garib
Fernando Natalio Chomalí Garib (born March 10, 1957 in Santiago de Chile ) is Archbishop of Concepción and Grand Chancellor of the Universidad Católica de la Santísima Concepción .
Life
Fernando Chomalí Garib attended two renowned schools in his hometown, the Alianza Francesa and the Instituto Nacional. He studied engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile . After graduating in 1981 and three years as an engineer, he began studying philosophy and theology in 1984. The Archbishop of Santiago de Chile, Carlos Oviedo Cavada OdeM , ordained Fernando Chomalí on April 6, 1991 as a priest . Theological and philosophical postgraduate studies followed: Chomalí obtained a licentiate in moral theology from the Pontifical Alfonsian Academy in Rome, a master's degree in bioethics from the Lateran University and received a dissertation from the Pontifical Gregorian University with a dissertation on La misericordia de Dios ( The Divine Mercy ) to Dr. theol. PhD. Since 1995 he has been Professor of Theological Anthropology at the PUC, and since 1997 Professor of Moral Theology there.
Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on April 6, 2006 titular bishop of Noba and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Santiago de Chile. The Apostolic Nuncio in Chile , Aldo Cavalli , donated him episcopal ordination on June 3 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops in Santiago de Chile Ricardo Ezzati Andrello SDB and Cristián Contreras Villarroel .
He was appointed Archbishop of Concepción on April 20, 2011 and was introduced to his office on May 28 of the same year.
Motto and coat of arms
Fernando Chomalí Garib chose a verse from the Philippians as a motto : Mihi vivere Christ - For me, Christ is life ( Phil 1,21 EU ). The Jerusalem cross on his coat of arms reminds that he comes from a Christian- Palestinian family in Bait Sahur . Bishop William Hanna Shomali , the Patriarchal Vicar of the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem for Jordan, is his cousin.
