Ruwen Filus (* 14. February 1988 in Bückeburg ) is a German table tennis - national team .
Career
Filus is a modern defender . He started table tennis at the age of five. First he played at TuS Niedernwöhren and then moved to TSV Schwalbe Tündern . He was sponsored by Sabine Böttcher and Frank Schönemeyer in the Hanover regional center.
In 2003 he became European student individual champion in Novi Sad . He also won the title with the German school team, which he had already won in 2002. In 2004 and 2006 he won again with the youth team. He achieved bronze at the 2006 Youth World Cup with the German team. In the same year he finished third in the European youth ranking tournament.
In 2005 he moved to the second division team TTS Borsum, a year later to the Bundesliga for TTV Gönnern . Together with Steffen Mengel he made it to the final in doubles at the national German championship in 2009. At the European Championships in 2009 he made it to the quarter-finals after he had thrown some strong players, such as the Poland Lucjan Błaszczyk , out of the race.
In 2009 he moved to TG Hanau , 2010 to TTF Ochsenhausen , and in 2011 he returned to Hanau. In April 2010 he was in the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time. On November 23, 2010 Filus played his first international match; in the fight against Belarus he won and lost one individual. Against Sweden on January 4, 2011 succeeded a victory in doubles with Patrick Franziska . In December 2010 he won the national ranking tournament . In 2011 he took part in a world championship for the first time , at the EM in the same year he won gold with the team. In the 2011/12 season he played for a year at TTC Grenzau . Since then he has been active at TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell , where he has now extended his contract to 2020.
At the European Championship 2013 Filus reached the quarterfinals again, in which he lost to teammate Bastian Steger . He was also a member of the winning team, but was not used. In 2013 he won his first World Tour medal by reaching the semi-finals at the Czech Open and has been in the Top 100 since September of this year. In April 2015 he made it into the Top 50. At the 2015 European Championships , he won silver with the Team and came into the quarter-finals in the individual, which he lost 3: 4 to Tiago Apolónia after 3-1 lead , which he missed an EM medal. In 2016 he was able to participate in the Europe Top-16 for the first time , where he was eliminated in the group stage. In the same year he contested his first team world championship and was German champion in doubles with Ricardo Walther . They repeated this success the following year, when Filus was also runner-up in the individual and received a nomination for an individual world championship for the first time since 2011 . There he reached the last sixteen in the singles, which he lost 2: 4 to the second in the world rankings, Fan Zhendong . In July he reached a new personal best in the world rankings with 21st place, in September he again won gold with the team at the 2017 European Championships and was the best-placed defender in the world for the first time. In doubles with Ricardo Walther, he was also able to qualify for the Grand Finals , in which they could not take part due to an injury Walther. He won his first World Cup medal at the 2018 World Cup , in which Germany finished second despite numerous injury problems.
In January 2018, he achieved his best world ranking so far with rank 18. At the European Championships in 2018 he won the mixed title with Han Ying and the bronze medal in doubles with Ricardo Walther .

Equipment
The Filus racket supports his offensive all-round game. He uses a very fast attack blade with a butterfly long pimple rubber on the backhand and a butterfly rubber of maximum sponge thickness on the forehand.
Private
In June 2013, Ruwen Filus married Verena Petri. He has a son and two daughters, one of whom is severely disabled.
