Finkenstein ( Polish Brzezie ) is a district of the city of Opole . Until 2016, the Upper Silesian village was in the municipality of Groß Döbern in the Powiat Opolski (Opole district). The Elektrowina Opole coal-fired power station is located in the village .

Finkenstein is three kilometers east of the former town hall Groß Döbern and twelve kilometers northwest of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole ( Oppeln ).

history

Finkenstein was founded on June 8th, 1773 on which day the order to establish a colony was signed. Ober-Teich-Inspector Neuwertz was responsible for the design and staking out of the colony site. The staking out of the meadows and fields was only carried out according to the order of May 20, 1774 by conductor Heller jun. Forester Haering had to look after the plant. 2210 Rtl. Went through his hands for building houses, 320 Rtl. for the construction of the barns, 260 Rtl. for clearing the colonists' fields and 77 Rtl. for millet and potatoes, a total of 3223 rtl 7 gr. 10 2/5 Pfg. In 1783 109 people live in 20 houses. In 1787 only 90 souls are recorded, in 1819 the number increased to 124. A cottage trader has joined the 20 colonists; by 1865 the number of cottagers had risen to ten. To explain the name: von Finkenstein was minister around 1764, von Finkenstein was budget minister in Prussia in 1784. The village was laid out as a typical dead straight street village.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 276 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 17 for Poland. Finkenstein remained with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 313 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 331 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .

In 1945 the previously German town came to Poland , was renamed Brzezie and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . Construction of the Elektrowina Opole coal-fired power station south of the village began in the early 1970s . The first four blocks were completed between 1993 and 1997. In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Opolski . On April 22, 2009, German was introduced as the second official language in the community of Groß Döbern, which Finkenstein belongs to, and on December 1, 2009, the place was also given the official German place name Finkenstein . The adjacent coal-fired power plant has been expanded since December 2013. This will receive two new blocks with an output of 900 megawatts each. Completion is planned for 2019. On January 1, 2017, Finkenstein was incorporated into the city of Opole.
