Horst ( Polish Świerkle ) is a district of the city of Opole . Until 2016, the Upper Silesian village was in the municipality of Groß Döbern in the Powiat Opolski (Opole district).

Geographical location

Horst is located seven kilometers east of the municipality of Groß Döbern and eleven kilometers north of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole ( Opole ).

history

Horst was established as a colony in 1773.

In the referendum in Upper Silesia on March 20, 1921, 223 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 192 for Poland. Horst stayed with the German Empire . In 1933 there were 589 inhabitants. In 1939 the place had 593 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .

In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Świerkle and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Opolski . On April 22, 2009, German was introduced as the second official language in the community of Groß Döbern, to which Horst belonged, and on December 1, 2009, the place was also given the official German place name Horst . On January 1, 2017, Horst was incorporated into the city of Opole.

Attractions

  • The Church of the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1949. In 1970 the church was destroyed by fire and after a two-month renovation it got its current appearance.
