Fishermen looking for a woman is a German television film from the year 2018 of on behalf of ARD Degeto by Wiedemann & Berg Filmproduktion for the First was produced. Directed by Sinan Akkuş , the script was written by Judith Westermann . The film was in 2018 at the Hamburg Film Festival premiere and in the series last Friday in First erstausgestrahlt. The main character Alex has to return from Hamburg to his former hometown, the fictional remote fishing village of Stresund on the Baltic Sea , to clarify the care of his father Fred - the two have not been in contact for years.

action

Years ago Alex broke off contact with his father Fred during a dispute and moved to Hamburg from his home town of Stresund, a small fishing village on the Baltic Sea. Just when things are going really well for the IT professional there and he wants to start his own IT company with his friend Stefan, a letter from the social welfare office changes everything. The authorities asked him to pay for the care and maintenance of his father, who was in a wheelchair after an accident, with immediate effect. But since Alex urgently needs his savings right now to set up the company and on top of that doesn't see the need to pay for his father, he drives back to his old home to settle the matter. There he is not only confronted with the past - no, his father doesn't seem to have changed a bit either. On the contrary, it doesn't take long and the two of them have an argument again in a bad mood than before. Since Fred pissed off his caretaker, but is completely helpless on his own, Alex still has to take over his duties. Basically confirmed in the attitude not to sacrifice his money for the care of the father, he intends to sell the parental home and push the old man to the nursing home, with which the old man is of course anything but happy.

Selling the parental home is also more difficult than expected. Demographic change has left its mark and the remote fishing village is going downhill. There is a particular lack of women in the village - an aspect that has left lasting traces on the lonely fishermen. Only Marie, Alex's former sweetheart, is still available, but doesn't want to get involved with any of the “attractive” bachelors. Not entirely altruistic, since he wants to sell the family home profitably, Alex helps his old friends and organized a speed dating in order to attract women and make Stresund attractive for new residents. The idea actually attracts city dwellers who are willing to marry, but who immediately flee when they first come into contact with the fishermen when they turn up unwashed and in their usual work clothes and hardly utter a word. So Alex goes with the lazy fishermen to buy clothes and gives them flirting lessons, which ultimately pays off. So involved in the action and in constant contact with the past, Alex feels more and more in the right place and Hamburg moves into the background. When he learns that his father is in reality paraplegic as a result of the accident and will forever need help, something that Fred has so far kept from him, father and son slowly approach each other again. Fred is even suddenly more than insightful, agrees to sell the house, voluntarily wants to move into the nursing home and encourages Alex to lead his life in Hamburg.

As soon as a buyer has been found for the house and Alex is almost on his way to Hamburg again, his father falls down the stairs in the house and is admitted to hospital seriously injured. There it comes to a real reconciliation between the two of them and Alex realizes that his place is here with his father and his friends. The sale of the house will be reversed and the expansion of a holiday apartment in it will support the care of the father financially in the future. Childhood love Marie is back at Alex's side and in the meantime even the fishermen have managed to “fish” a partner at the crucial moment even without his help - fisherman Ole realizes that he likes men.

Reviews

“Even if the dramaturgy sounds familiar, this comedy is not a simple entertainment film for the over-60s viewers. Good mood scenes alternate with moments of serious feelings. The story has a tragic underbody and at the same time it develops an enormous comedic feel-good flair. The staging is also convincing, the cast is friendly, fresh, and Sebastian Fräsdorf carries the film. "

“Author Judith Westermann (“ Zimmer mit Stall - Berge versetzen ”) wrote the fishermen, all of the supporting characters, type characteristics and sentences into the script that could have been embarrassing with the wrong cast, but with actors whose faces you may have seen has seen, whose names are hardly known to a viewer, creates a winking authenticity effect that one likes to put up with. "

- Rainer Tittelbach on Tittelbach.tv

“Director Sinan Accu [...] His most recent work is characterized above all by the leadership of the actors, especially since the ensemble has been put together excellently. The fishermen's figures may be clichéd in themselves, but as a group they create a homogeneous picture. The actors are hardly known, but do their job excellently: Juri Senft as the maritime poet Lüthi, Stefan Lampadius as his somewhat dodgy partner Fitje and finally David Simon as Alex's old friend Ole, who has never had anything with a woman for good reason. "

“A particularly popular pattern of action is the return of a man or woman to their former home somewhere in the country. At the latest, the second person you come across is the love of your youth. Although the old feelings flare up again soon, the person who has returned home must first prove himself worthy of love before the happy ending. Fischer sucht Frau varies this scheme in an original way. "

- Tilmann P. Gangloff on evangelisch.de

“It's nice that years ago RTL made the cupola row Bauer sucht Frau on television socially acceptable . Because now the ARD has found an answer to this with the comedy Fischer sucht Frau . At least over 90 minutes. "

“After the initial, hopeful momentum, the film by author Judith Westermann and director Sinan Batteries then turns into a somewhat sluggish slow motion with the lack of movement in the village, because speed dating also needs a long start and the viewer is not necessarily imaginative takes away. "
