Flinder Boyd (born February 12, 1980 in San Francisco , California ) is a retired basketball player . Born an American , Boyd took his father's British citizenship after studying in his home country . So he played as a professional in France , Spain and in the British Basketball League in particular and was not subject to foreigner regulations in Europe. As a Briton, he was then appointed to the British national basketball team and took part in the 2009 European Championship finals in Poland . Due to injuries, he missed both participation in the 2011 European Championship and the 2012 Olympic Games in London, which forced him to retire in March 2012.

Career

Dartmouth College (1998 to 2002)

Boyd went to study on the east coast of the United States and studied at Dartmouth College , whose college sports team Big Green plays in the Ivy League of the NCAA . While the Big Greens are quite successful in American football within the Ivy League , their successes in basketball are far behind. In the 1940s, during the Second World War , they lost the final game of the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship twice . Boyd scored during his four-year collegiate career over 1,000 points and is the all-time list of Big Green, the player with the most Basket templates (585), he also has 16 assists , where most documents within a single game.

Ligue Nationale de Basket in France (2002 to 2006)

After completing his studies, Boyd went to France as a professional in 2002 and played basketball in the first French league LNB Pro A for Saint Thomas Basket in Le Havre . In the final table they reached eighth place and qualified for the first time for the play-offs for the French championship, where they were eliminated in the first round against the eventual champions EB Pau-Orthez . Boyd could not play himself in the foreground and switched to the second season Pro B of the LNB for the following season. After a season at ALM Basket in Évreux , he moved to the basketball team of FC Mulhouse , with which he reached fifth place in the 2005 final table. He then moved to the league competitor L'Hermine from Nantes , which only reached 15th place out of 18 teams.

Spanish LEB and British National Team (2006 to 2009)

For the 2006/07 season, Boyd moved to the third Spanish league LEB Plata to Club Instituto Rosalía de Castro from Santiago de Compostela , Galicia , with whom he won the league championship under the sponsor's name “Beirasar” and rose to the LEB Oro. In the following season you reached the play-offs for promotion to the league ACB , in which you lost in the first round against the eventual winner and promoted Bruesa GBC . After the 2012 Olympic Games were awarded to London, the British national basketball team was reorganized and Boyd was appointed to the national team for the first time in 2008. In January 2009 he then moved to the British Basketball League to the Riders from Leicester , with whom he was eliminated in the semi-final play-offs for the championship. After struggling with groin problems at the end of the season, he completed all three preliminary round matches for the British national team during the 2009 European Championship finals before being suspended for a long time. In the first European Championship finals participation of a British national team lost all three games against the later semi-finalists Slovenia , Spain and Serbia .

Comeback in the Spanish LEB Oro and end of career in England (2010 to 2012)

After Boyd had been briefly under contract with the British champions, the Eagles from Newcastle upon Tyne , in January 2010, he tried a comeback in February 2010 with the Spanish second division club Aguas de Sousas from Ourense . Ourense reached the end of the 15th place out of 18 teams and was able to avoid relegation. In the following season he played twelve games at the club from the Slovakian Prievidza and at the end of the season was still active for one game with the traditional basketball team of AEK Athens in the Greek A1 Ethniki . While AEK suffered from serious financial problems and was relegated to the second class, Boyd missed participation in the 2011 European Championship finals after injury problems. In the 2011/12 season, Boyd returned to the Leicester Riders, but ended his active role in the spring of 2012 Career prematurely without the desired participation in the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
