For the 2009/10 season he was included in the squad of the second team (U-23) of HSV, but played almost exclusively games for the A-youth (U-19) in his last junior year . For the 2010/11 season, Brügmann quickly gained a regular place in the U23 and became a permanent fixture in the team.

On the 7th matchday of the 2011/12 season, he was appointed to the squad for a Bundesliga match for the first time by his U-23 coach Rodolfo Cardoso , who at that time looked after the professional team on an interim basis after Michael Oenning's dismissal . However, he was not used in the 2-1 away win against VfB Stuttgart . Until the end of the season he continued to play with the U-23 in the fourth-class Regionalliga Nord . His contract expired at the end of the season.

VfL Bochum

On May 9, 2012, VfL Bochum announced the commitment of Brügmann. He signed a two-year contract until June 30, 2014 and made a free transfer. Jens Todt , sporting director of VfL Bochum, already knew Brügmann from his time as a youth coordinator at Hamburger SV. He made his debut in the 2nd Bundesliga on August 4, 2012 (1st matchday) in a 2-1 home win against Dynamo Dresden .
