The EFL Trophy 2017/18 , also known under the name of the main sponsor Checkatrade Trophy , was the 33rd edition of this cup competition for the teams in Football League One and Football League Two , the third and fourth leagues in English football.

As in the previous year, 64 clubs took part in the games for the English Football League Trophy 2017/18, which began on August 29, 2017 and on April 8, 2018 with the final at Wembley Stadium between Lincoln City and Shrewsbury Town ( 1-0) in London.

The EFL Trophy was played in five rounds. Teams from Football League One and Football League Two as well as 16 selected, invited U-23 teams from Category One took part. In the first round , the respective group winners and runners-up were determined in 16 groups with four teams each, divided into a northern and southern region ( Northern and Southern Section ). If there was no winner in a duel in the group stage after 90 minutes, the game was decided on penalties. The winner received two points, the loser one. The knockout system has been used since the second round.
