Francesco Saverio Salerno

Francesco Saverio Salerno (born August 27, 1928 in Caserta , Italy ; † January 21, 2017 ) was a Curia Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy , Francesco Saverio Salerno received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Rome on March 16, 1952 . Salerno was at the Pontifical Gregorian University for doctor of theology doctorate . He was also at the Pontifical Lateran University in professional Canon Law and the Sapienza University of Rome in the subject civil law doctorate.

From 1952 to 1958, Francesco Saverio Salerno worked as an assistant priest in the Roman parishes of San Giustino , San Saturnino and San Francesco Saverio . 1958 Salerno employees in the office for marriage law in the Vicariate of Rome and Defensor vinculi the church court of the church Lazio . He was also professor of canon law at various papal universities such as the Lateran University and the Gregorian and professor of state canon law at various state universities such as the La Sapienza University in Rome.

On 20 December 1997 it appointed Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Caere and secretary of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See . The episcopal ordination donated him John Paul II on 6 January 1998. Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Giovanni Battista Re , Official in the State Secretariat , and Jorge María Mejía , Secretary of the Congregation for Bishops . On October 23, 1998, Pope John Paul II appointed him Secretary of the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature.

On December 30, 2003, Pope John Paul II Salernus accepted a resignation from the office of General Secretary of the Apostolic Signature, which had been submitted for reasons of age.
