Franco Piersanti

Franco Piersanti (* 12. January 1950 in Rome ) is an Italian composer . His work as a composer is varied: He composes for cinema and television films , theater , ballet , as well as orchestral and chamber music . From 1976 onwards he composed the score for around 100 films.

Life

Piersanti obtained his double bass diploma from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. There he met with Armando Renzi composition and with Franco Ferrara and Bellugi orchestral conducting . As a double bass player, he joined the National Symphonic Orchestra of the Rai and took part in several film recording sessions.

During his studies he met the Milanese composer Nino Rota and was his assistant from 1975 to 1977. Rota helped Piersanti get started as a film composer. He met Nanni Moretti , who offered him the composition for his film Ich bin ein Autarkist (1976), whereupon a permanent collaboration with the director developed.

Piersanti composed the music for the television film Rotta su Ofira for Tommaso Dazzi . The work as a television film composer became an important part of Piersanti's work and reached its peak in the collaboration with Alberto Sironi : This began in 1988 with the TV film Notte di luna and continues with the successful series Commissario Montalbano .

The collaborations with Enzo Muzii for 6 TV films and those with Maurizio Zaccaro for important TV productions such as Cuore and I ragazzi della via Pál are worth mentioning .

Piersanti's main oeuvre, however, consists of film music compositions. In the course of his career he has composed around 100 audio tracks. He also worked several times with the Calabrian director Gianni Amelio . For example, he composed the music for his film Ins Heart Hit (1982), for the television film I velieri (1983) and six other films, including Stolen Children (1992), Lamerica (1994) and So we laughed (1998).

In addition to the collaboration with Moretti, for whom he composed the music for Bianca , there were also some contributions to the works of other important filmmakers. In addition to the episodic works for genre cinema, such as Gianfranco Giagni's horror film Spider Labyrinth (1988), the scores for Carlo Lizzani ( Mamma Ebe , 1986; Emma , 1988), Gianni Serra ( Una lepre con la faccia di bambina , 1989), Margarethe von Trotta ( Fear and Love , 1988); Mimmo Calopresti (four films from 1995 to 2002), Roberto Faenza ( Marianna Ucrìa , 1998) memorable.
