Francis Wallace Cope (* 19th November 1915 in Anaconda , Montana , † 8. October 1990 in San Jose , California ) Nickname : Ice House , was an American American football player . He played in the National Football League (NFL) with the New York Giants .

Player career

College career

Frank Cope visited in Hayward , California , the High School and studied for his degree at Santa Clara University . In college he played football for the Santa Clara Broncos . With the Broncos trained by Buck Shaw , he was able to move into the Sugar Bowl in 1936 and 1937 . Both games against Louisiana State University could be won - in 1936 21:14, the following year 6-0.

Professional career

After graduating from college, Cope joined the New York Giants in 1938 . Cope played on the offensive line with Mel Hein and was pre-blocker for running back Tuffy Leemans . In the same year, the offensive tackle and his team trained by Head Coach Steve Owen won the NFL championship with 23:17 against the Green Bay Packers . In 1939 running back Ken Strong joined the Giants as a complement to Leemans. In the same year Cope was able to move into the play-offs again with the Giants , where they lost to the Green Bay Packers with 17:23.

In the 1941 season, the Giants were able to move into the final and lost again, this time against the Chicago Bears with 9:37. Other finals were in 1943 - defeat against Washington Redskins with 0:28, 1944 - defeat against Packers with 7:14 and 1946 with a final defeat against the Bears with 14:24.

After 10 playing years with the Giants, he ended his career in 1947.

Honors

Cope played twice in the Pro Bowl , the season finale game of the best players of the season. He was also voted All Pro five times . He is a member of the NFL 1930s All-Decade Team and the Santa Clara Athletic Hall of Fame .
