Frank Corrado (born March 26, 1993 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with MODO Hockey from HockeyAllsvenskan since June 2020 and plays there in the position of defender .

Career

Corrado spent his junior years with the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League . There he played in 285 games between 2009 and 2013, in which he collected 118 scorer points . During this time he was selected in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round in 150th place by the Vancouver Canucks from the National Hockey League . The Canucks signed him in September 2011, but left him in OHl for the following two years. In the course of the 2012/13 season he moved there in January to the title contender Kitchener Rangers .

After the defender had already gained his first professional experience with Vancouver's farm team , the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League , at the end of the 2011/12 season, he was also in the remainder of the 2012 game year after the Rangers were eliminated from the play-offs / 13 deployed in Chicago. He also made his NHL debut for Vancouver. For the 2012/13 season Corrado was an integral part of the new cooperation partner Utica Comets , but also found himself in the Canucks' NHL squad again and again. The same was repeated in the following game year, so that he had played a total of 28 NHL games in the spring of 2015.

After preparing for the 2015/16 season , the Vancouver Canucks tried to send the defender back to the AHL via the waiver list. However, the Toronto Maple Leafs secured the services of Corrados, with which he returned to his native city. With the Leafs he completed - in addition to some appearances for the Toronto Marlies in the AHL - 39 season games. In the 2016/17 season , Corrado was mostly the seventh defender in the Toronto squad and was rarely used. In addition, the defender publicly criticized his coach Mike Babcock for the few missions, which meant that he was sent to the AHL via the waiver in early February. Finally, Corrado was handed over to the Pittsburgh Penguins for the trade deadline on March 1, 2017 , with the Maple Leafs receiving Eric Fehr , Steven Oleksy and a four-round vote for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft .

After the 2017/18 season, his expiring contract in Pittsburgh was not extended, so that he had been looking for a new employer as a free agent since July 2018 . He found this in October 2018 when the defender returned to the Toronto Marlies and signed a contract with them that was limited to the AHL. This was not extended in summer 2019. In October 2019 Corrado was signed on by the Belleville Senators from the AHL on probation, which became a permanent engagement in December 2019. The Canadian fulfilled this and moved to Europe for the first time in June 2020 when he joined MODO Hockey from the second-rate Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan .
