Frank Teichmüller

Frank Teichmüller (born September 18, 1943 in Königsberg ) is a German lawyer and trade unionist. From 1986 to 2005 he was district manager of the IG Metall district coast.

Career

Frank Teichmüller, son of Ruth Teichmüller geb. Gauda and Carl Hans Teichmüller, attended elementary school in Hamburg-Eidelstedt from 1950 to 1954 and then the grammar schools in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel and Hamburg-St. Georg from 1954 to his Abitur in 1964. From 1964 to 1966 he did his military service . He then studied law at the University of Hamburg . He passed the first state law examination on October 27, 1970. From January 1, 1971 to February 28, 1974 he was a trainee lawyer at the Hanseatic Higher Regional Court in Hamburg. The Great State Examination followed on February 22, 1974.

From 1972 to 1973 he was an intern and trainee lawyer in IG Metall's coastal district management. On March 4, 1974, he was employed as a department head in the management of IG Metall in Frankfurt am Main . On October 1, 1975, he moved to the IG Metall administrative office in Hamburg as legal protection secretary. In 1977 he became secretary for the port and the southern region of the IG Metall administration office in Hamburg. From January 1, 1980 he became District Secretary in the IG Metall District Management Coast. On November 1, 1986 he was elected to the office of district manager of the IG Metall district coast and was thus responsible for Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg, Bremen, north-western Lower Saxony ; after reunification also Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . In 1993, as the successor to Franz Steinkühler and in 2003 as the successor to Klaus Zwickel , he was discussed as chairman of IG Metall. He retired on December 31, 2004 as district manager of IG Metall, coastal district; his successor was Jutta Blankau . Teichmüller is also one of the speakers at May Day rallies and anniversary events of the union.

According to the German Press Agency , he is assigned to the internal union camp of the reformers and sat on the supervisory boards as an employee representative. a. the Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft , the Bremer Vulkan , at Blohm + Voss and Airbus . The decline of German shipbuilding and the end of the Bremen volcano, the fight for the 35-hour week, the downsizing at Airbus in the nineties and the fall of the Berlin Wall and the associated expansion of the district fell during his tenure . He knew how to combine a combative attitude with tactical suppleness and how to gain respect both in his own organization and among employers.

other activities

In his retirement he founded the cultural association in the union building , of which he was director for many years. Together with the association more democracy he advocates for effective referendums in Hamburg and is member of the Board of Trustees of the Internet platform abgeordnetenwatch.de . He was also a member of the advisory board of the union unemployment service "Dau wat" in Rostock for several years .

In November 2008 Teichmüller resigned from the SPD after 36 years because of a controversial internal election of the then direct candidate Danial Ilkhanipour for the federal election .

Private

Teichmüller lives in Hamburg. He has been married to the former Vice President of the Hamburg Labor Court and member of the Hamburg Constitutional Court Ingrid Teichmüller (née Heldt) since the early 1970s and has two sons.
