Franz Knöpfle

Franz Knöpfle (born August 27, 1926 in Lindau (Lake Constance) ; † September 2, 2013 in Stadtbergen ) was a German lawyer and university politician. He was the first elected President of the University of Augsburg from 1973 to 1979.

Live and act

From 1946 Franz Knöpfle studied law and economics at the Universities of Freiburg i. Br. And Munich . After the First Legal State Examination 1949 and the graduation as a graduate economist in 1952 received his doctorate he in 1952 at the University of Munich in Leo Rosenberg Dr. jur. From 1953 Franz Knöpfle worked as a fully qualified lawyer in the Bavarian State Administration and was seconded to Columbia University and administrative authorities in New York State for a one-year graduate course in American administration in 1954/55 .

In 1958 he was appointed senior councilor to the Bavarian State Chancellery , where he was then the youngest government director of Bavaria, where he was personal advisor to Prime Ministers Hanns Seidel , Hans Ehard and Alfons Goppel .

Franz Knöpfle completed his habilitation in 1965 at the University of Munich and in 1966 was offered a professorship at the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer , where he was rector from 1969 to 1971.

In 1972 he took over the chair for public law , in particular administrative law and administrative theory , at the newly founded University of Augsburg, which he held until his retirement in 1996. From 1973 to 1979 Franz Knöpfle was the first elected President of the University of Augsburg.

From 1972 to 2002 Franz Knöpfle was also rector of the Munich School of Politics (HfP), and from 1972 to 2009 he was head of studies at the Administration and Business Academy Swabia (VWA). From 1987 he was Vice President of the Board of Trustees for the meetings of the Nobel Prize winners in Lindau, of which he was a member from 1975 to 2007. Since 1988 Franz Knöpfle has been chairman of the foundation board of the “ Catholic University of Eichstätt ”, in 2004 he was made an honorary senator. From 1988 to 2004 he was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Academy for Public Administration in the Federal Ministry of the Interior . Until 2007 he was a member of the University Council of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and was a member of the Advisory Board of the Academy for Political Education , Tutzing until 2009 . From 1983, Franz Knöpfle was a liaison professor of the Hanns Seidel Foundation for the Augsburg universities. In 1998/99 he was President of the Rotary Club of Augsburg.
