Franz Ludwig Graf von Bigot de Saint-Quentin , also François-Louis Graf von Bigot de Saint-Quentin (born November 25, 1774 in Maursmünster , Alsace , † September 15, 1854 in Mauer near Vienna ) was an officer first French, then Austrian ( Lieutenant Field Marshal ) and second owner of the Dragoon Regiment Archduke Franz Joseph No. 3 from the Bigot de Saint-Quentin family .

biography

The young French royal cadet emigrated in 1791, first entered the papal service for six years , then on March 1, 1797 as a first lieutenant in Austrian military service and was taken over in Austria with the French count's title, first with the Prince Johann Hussars, then with the mounted hunters and in 1799 with the Hussar Regiment "Arthur Duke of Connaught and Strathearn" No. 4 . As a result, the staunch royalist distinguished himself during the coalition wars in the battles of Ostrach , Stockach , Neckarshausen and Philippsburg and became captain in 1801 .

During the Napoleonic Wars between 1805 and 1809 he fought as a major in the battles of Ulm , Regensburg , Aspern and the Battle of Wagram , in Hussar Regiment No. 6, Blankenstein . In 1812 he served in this regiment in Russia , taking part in the battles at Signiewiczi, Pruszany, Kobrin, Liuboml and Stara-Wizwa. He particularly distinguished himself with his four squadrons at the battle of Sielo-Velykoye. In 1813 and 1814 he fought in Germany, including in the Battle of the Nations near Leipzig . For his military work he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Imperial Russian Order of St. Anne , and he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.

The Lieutenant Colonel of Count O'Reilly Chevauxlegers Regiment No. 3 became Colonel and Commander of the Galician Dragoon Regiment, No. 3 of Cavalry General Vincent Baron Knesevich of St. Helena on February 24, 1823 .

The Count was promoted to Major General and Brigadier in Stuhlweissenburg (Székesfehérvár) on March 25, 1831 (rank of April 11th of that year) , then on August 13, 1838 to field marshal lieutenant and division general in Sibiu (1840) and was promoted (1843 ) 2. Owner of the Dragoon Regiment Archduke Franz Joseph No. 3, the regiment in which he had already served as a colonel. Eventually he retired on April 1, 1844. In 1846 he received the Transylvanian Indigenous Society.

He was also a Knight of the Royal French Military Order of Saint Louis .

Franz Ludwig married Elise Freiin von Ysselbach in Mauer near Vienna (born November 3, 1779 in Neuburg an der Donau , † January 17, 1853 in Mauer near Vienna). From this marriage there were three children:

  1. August (born March 20, 1804 in Radom , † December 18, 1848 in Csucsa (Ciucea) in Klausenburg (Cluj) County in Transylvania ), fell during the Hungarian revolt as a major in the battle near Csucsa. He was married to Henriette Isabella Freiin von Podstatzki-Prussinowitz and Thonsern (born July 11, 1816 in Brno, † March 30, 1903 in Brandeis on the Elbe (Brandýs nad Labem) ); her son was the future general of the cavalry Anatol Count Bigot de Saint-Quentin
  2. Karl August Leopold (1805-1884) was Austrian general of the cavalry governor and commanding general in the Banat as well as a writer.

Margarethe (born January 12, 1807 in Neuburg an der Donau ; † April 18, 1881 in Vienna ) married to the Imperial and Royal Ministerialrat and Vice President of the Supreme Audit Office Karl Freiherr Ransonnet von Villez (1802-1892), was the mother of Eugen Freiherr von Ransonnet -Villez , an Austrian painter and diplomat.
