Franz Rogowski
Franz Rogowski (born February 2, 1986 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German actor .
Life
The son of a pediatrician and a midwife grew up in a middle-class environment in Tübingen . On his mother's side, Franz Rogowski is the grandson of the former BDI President Michael Rogowski . He received dance training after first wanting to be a bicycle courier. He has been active in the independent theater scene since 2007. He appeared on various stages, including the Thalia Theater Hamburg , the Schauspielhaus Hannover or the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz , as a dancer as well as a choreographer or actor.
From birth, Rogowski had a cleft lip that was surgically closed and therefore lisps when he speaks. He was discovered as a cinema actor by the Berlin director Jakob Lass . Lass used him in 2011 in Frontalwatte and two years later in the award-winning Love Steaks (2013) for the male lead. In 2015, she participated in the Berlinale competition entry Victoria , directed by Sebastian Schipper . In the 2015/16 season, the self-taught actor became a permanent member of the Münchner Kammerspiele ensemble .
In 2017, Rogowski was the son of Anne Laurent, played by Isabelle Huppert , in Michael Haneke's film Happy End , which premiered at the 70th Cannes International Film Festival . Leading roles followed in 2018 in the cinema productions Lux - Krieger des Lichts by Daniel Wild , In den Gänge by Thomas Stuber and Transit by Christian Petzold . The last two films mentioned were invited to compete at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival , where Rogowski was honored as a German “ Shooting Star ”. In the same year, Rogowski won the German Film Prize for Best Actor for In the Aisles .
In 2020 Rogowski worked with Christian Petzold and Paula Beer on the feature film Undine .
