Live and act

Cabinet, son of the monastery judge Johannes Cabinet and his wife Maria Walburga, attended what is now the Leopoldinum Gymnasium in Passau and joined the Jesuit order . After a time as a novice in Vienna - he could not take part in a mission to Brazil for health reasons - he was a teacher in Linz from 1769. After the abolition of the Jesuit order in 1773, he returned to Vienna and was ordained a priest in December 1774 . 1776, he was in Vienna for a doctor of theology doctorate . In the same year he became professor of mathematics and physics at the Lyceum in Amberg (Bavaria) and in 1784 professor at the first Bavarian university in Ingolstadt . There he taught camera science with a focus on agriculture, mining, forestry and natural history . After the university was relocated to Landshut in 1800 , he continued his work as a university lecturer there.

Cabinet was later the first director of the Botanical Garden in Munich between 1809 and 1832 .

The street leading to the main entrance bears his name (Franz-Knie-Straße). In the garden there is a statue with a classicist bust of Schranks with the inscription "FRANZ VON SCHRANK REI BOTANICAE IN BAVARIA STATOR" ( Franz von Schrank, protector of the flora in Bavaria ). His bust was also placed in the Hall of Fame in Munich.
