Franziska Schreiber (* July 1990 in Dresden ) is a former German politician and now a presenter. She was a board member of Junge Alternative , the AfD's youth organization , and is the author of an autobiographical book about her former party.

Life

Franziska Schreiber graduated from high school in 2008 and, according to her own account, grew up in a left-wing family . After breaking off her law degree , she studied political science at a distance learning university . In 2013 she joined the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) and one year later became chairwoman of the Junge Alternative (JA) in Saxony and deputy press spokeswoman. In 2017 she became a member of the federal executive board. Shortly before the federal election in September 2017 , she left the AfD and publicly recommended the election of the FDP . Since the publication of her book Inside AfD: The report of a dropout , her statements regarding contacts between the AfD and right-wing extremists and individual AfD politicians with the President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, Hans-Georg Maaßen , have been quoted in media reports. Schreiber has been operating a YouTube channel since March 2019, which is part of the “ funk ” network of ARD and ZDF.

Political positions

Schreiber describes herself as a libertarian and a minarchist . She first gained notoriety in May 2015 through a post on Facebook in which she argued against the Holocaust denial law , as she was in favor of unlimited freedom of expression. In an interview with Die Zeit at the beginning of 2017, she continued to hold the opinion that one should be allowed to say “disgusting things”. However, she added that repealing the relevant law at a time of rising anti-Semitism would have been “tactlessness” and that she regretted her contribution - a “stupid thing”. At the beginning of 2017 she also criticized “Multi-Kulti-Schmalz” in the plot of the children's film Bibi and Tina 4 .

According to the Berliner Morgenpost, their decision to leave the AfD matured in September 2017 with the application for a "declaration of support with the Middle East state" Israel , which was rejected by a majority at the AfD party conference in Cologne . Schreiber - who has already expressed herself pro-Israel on Twitter and is peculiarly freely referred to as an “ anarcho-capitalist , voluntary Israel lobbyist and transhumanist ” in her author profile - recognized a strategy: “Höcke, Gauland and the others are trying to get liberal members from the Party to push ”. They knew “that they will not get a majority within the party with the moderates.” Furthermore, she agrees with Lindner's position that the Crimea, which has been occupied by Russia, is “initially recognized as a permanent provisional arrangement”. She deals with "men's rights", accusing critics of " penis envy ". She also advocated the right of women to carry firearms for “self-defense”, calling this the “last necessary step towards emancipation”.

Regarding the refugee crisis , Schreiber said in a television interview on Stern-TV in August 2018 : Angela Merkel's political slogan of “opening the border” would have been deliberately invented within the party during her time: “We deliberately set the narrative that Merkel would Had opened borders. That never happened. We came up with that as functionaries in the AfD youth organization ”and refers in this context to the opened internal borders in the EU through the Schengen Agreement in 1995 before Merkel's term in office.

Inside AfD: The report of a dropout

Her book Inside AfD: The Report of a Dropout , which was published by Europa Verlag in August 2018, caused a media stir . In it, she describes the AfD from the perspective of a formerly active party member. A central point is that the AfD has radicalized itself since it was founded and during Schreiber's active time by marginalizing what it calls a liberal wing and is now a right-wing radical party. This radicalization caused her to leave.

Content (excerpts)

The Germany radio quoted some passages scribe its publication such as: "Here was the true FDP, one, the state, the system critical encounters fresh party. She wanted to introduce citizen participation, fight corruption, she pleaded for referendums "and continued:" An outcry from those who disagree with what has happened over the past 28 years, a cry for help. [...] Without shame, without regard for political correctness, the AfD faces the overpowering arrogant system and the media it controls. "After Lucke's fall , however, she stated:" We were longing for shitstorms [...] Who meets the most provocative, barely constitutional tone? Who gets the loudest outrage? It was about taking a topic to extremes in such a way that our supporters cheered, the press was as furious as possible [...] and the judiciary found no clue. ”Today, according to Schreiber, the AfD consists of“ 15 percent neo-Nazis , 20 percent National romantic with an imperial affinity and 15 percent followers. On the other hand, there is a battered, divided liberal camp without charismatic leadership. Who should stop the right? "

In the Huffington Post , Schreiber quoted other passages from her book such as: “Anyone who expresses a different opinion is obviously misinformed. Anyone who expresses a different opinion within the AfD is a careerist or a submarine ”and describes contacts via Facebook groups to conservatives within the CDU / CSU and FDP parties. She said that the AfD Saxony "always" had good contacts with some members of the CDU Saxony's state parliament . She knew that the East German CDU had hardly any “reservations”. Today the “AfD is no longer a liberal party as it was founded in 2013, nor is it a conservative one. It is reactionary and a significant part of the membership is extremely nationalistic. ”It is a“ party of active xenophobia ”and rejects the“ system ”; their "key leadership figures are driving the overthrow", which many voters have not taken seriously so far - as apparently also members of the "system parties" and the "further shrinking minority of the actually democratically minded AfDler."

reception

Her assertion that the former party chairwoman Frauke Petry was advised by Hans-Georg Maaßen , the President of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution , receives particular attention . After the Federal Office's denial, she backed up this claim with an affidavit . The Austrian extreme athlete Felix Baumgartner contradicted the suggestion in the book that he should have donated for the AfD.

The book was placed in the first week after publication in the mirror nonfiction hardcover bestseller list No. 37 and rose in the second week at No. 8. The first edition of end August 2018 was out of print .

Litigation

Franziska Schreiber claims in Inside AfD: The report of a dropout that the Thuringian AfD state chairman Björn Höcke, together with the right-wing publisher Götz Kubitschek , would analyze speeches by Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels and use them as templates for his speeches. The source for this statement is Dimitrios Kisoudis , a former colleague of MEP Markus Pretzell . Kisoudis told her about it at a meeting in Brussels . Kisoudis himself denied such statements and announced legal action against this. The publisher Götz Kubitschek also called this statement a "defamation" and also promised legal action. On September 19, 2018, the Halle Regional Court prohibited further dissemination of the allegation in a judgment that was not yet final, as the passage in question violated Kubitschek's personal rights.

criticism

Within the party, but also in press comments, Schreiber is sometimes accused of leaving the party and publishing books for purely tactical and power-political or career-related reasons, since without Frauke Petry she would have no future in the party.

In a book review in Der Freitag, David Besich called her revelations neither exclusive nor unknown and presented “experiences, disappointments and decisions” in such a way “that the entry into the right milieu appears plausible and meaningful.” This would be accompanied by “reference to one's own previous Naivety that reduces the circumstances and opportunity structures of one's own actions ”. In terms of content, Schreiber would also be guilty of a “break with the ideology and practice of the outlined milieu that is not just emotionally and personally justified,” like many before her. What “passes as a revelation in the media” is essentially not. She describes “the power struggles surrounding the process of radicalization of the AfD”, but classifies them as “politically inadequate”. Too much "for her the character traits of leading AfD functionaries are in the foreground." A political debate could "not replace this." Around the middle of the book it would also become clear "that the author neither overlooks nor does the interaction between new right networks and the AfD can classify politically. "

In the Handelsblatt, Lazar Backovic nevertheless considers the book to be important, “because it was the first time someone spoke publicly, had access to the closest party circle and provided internal views from it.” However, he criticized the impression that “there is someone who takes on the paint a refined person who passively accepted how she radicalized herself together with the party and only noticed much too late what was actually happening ”. She emphasized liberal positions several times, but was nevertheless not politically localized and also nourished "partly questionable theses". The AfD would only have attracted so many rights "because the media called them national and right-wing", and one would like to know "how much of such statements are late effects of their political past or are honest opinions."
