Frauenzell is a district of the Altusried market in the Bavarian Allgäu ( Oberallgäu district ).

location

The parish village is not far from the state border with Baden-Württemberg . Frauenzell includes the hamlets of Buch, Dürrenbach, Gaggen, Gschnaidt , Maggmannshofen, Rungatshofen, Vorderbrennberg, Hinterbrennberg and Walkenberg.

history

Frauenzell was already mentioned in 855 as "Hupoldscelle" or "Hupoldescella" (cell of the monk Hupold) in the document book of the prince abbey of St. Gallen . Later the name changed to “Unserfrawenzelle” (our women's cell), this designation probably refers to the short-term settlement of a women's monastery or a Marian shrine. In 1503 the prince monastery Kempten set up a village court in Frauenzell . The construction of the striking parish church began in 1707 ; the previously lower church tower was extended to its current height of 52 meters after a fire in 1874.

As part of the municipal reform , Frauenzell was incorporated into Altusried on January 1, 1972.

traffic

Frauenzell is connected to the regional road network via the district roads OA 16 (in the direction of Muthmannshofen or in the direction of Leutkirch– Hinznang ) and OA 17 (in the direction of Leutkirch – Winterstetten) and with its neighboring towns. A municipal road leads from Frauenzell via the hamlet of Luttolsberg to Leutkirch-Wuchzenhofen. With the bus line 66 of the Verkehrsgemeinschaft Kempten there is a regular public transport connection to Kempten by a local bus company.

Attractions

In the center of the village is the baroque church of the Assumption of the Virgin from 1709/1710. Also worth seeing is the Gschnaidt , an 880 m above sea level. d. M. located hill with two pilgrimage chapels, approx. Four kilometers east of Frauenzell. The Frauenzell parish had the two Gschnaidt chapels in its coat of arms .
